Repurchasing my Basics

12/30/11

I haven't had to repurchase any makeup in a long long time, except for mascara. Mascara is probably the only piece of makeup I have to buy continuously since I'll never, ever stop using it and I use it everyday.
I figured since I'm shopping in the States and things there are cheaper anyways, I'd buy some beloved MAC products, etc that I also use alot of. The last time I went to MAC to repurchase my studio fix powder the girl mismatched me and instead of NC30 I got NC25. It might not seem that big of a deal, but NC25 really washes me out...sometimes I use it lightly to set liquid foundations but not often! Now I've completely memorized my number for foundation (note: this was quite early on in my makeup addiction :P)

Left to right: MAC studio fix in NC30, MAC prolongwear concealer in NC20, Revlon Colourstay Foundation 300 Golden Beige (combination/oily skin), Covergirl Lashblast Waterproof in Very Black

All these products are truly great and I haven't found any other ones of the same kind I like more. I looove my drugstore mascara, its one of the best ones I've tried-even among the higher end products. I am in the market to maybe find a better concealer, and don't tell me bobbi brown because that stuff didn't really work that well for me!

What are your favourite products used everyday? Any HG concealers out there for you guys?

Ulta Haul: Eye and Blush Swatches

12/29/11

I promised you ladies swatches, and I'm serving you guys my eye and blush products I got from Ulta before I do all the NYX lipswatches.
So I'm swatching the NYX eyeshadows, Lorac Soul Blush and the Urban Decay 24/7 El Dorado liquid eyeliner.

Left to Right: Lorac blush in Soul, NYX ultimate pearl eyeshadow in Golden Pink Pearl, NYX eyeshadow in Frosted Lilac

Urban Decay 24/7 liquid liner in El Dorado

Left to Right: Lorac blush in Soul, NYX ultimate pearl eyeshadow in Golden Pink Pearl, NYX eyeshadow in Frosted Lilac, UD liner in El Dorado
Artificial Light without flash

Same order as above.
Artificial Light with flash.

As you can see the blush, the frosted lilac and the urban decay gold liner are super pigmented! The NYX ultimate pearl shadow is a less pigmented since its a mauvey gold but it has ALOT of glitter :) I still to perfect my technique with this product before I make any strong statements.
-How do you ladies use it?
I can't wait to wear the UD El Dorado liner on New Years!

What are you ladies doing for your New Years look?

Ulta Haul (Oh dear...)

12/28/11

Since my parents live in the states, I come to visit them for holidays, etc. Apparently an Ulta store opened up in their small little town! For those of you that don't know Ulta is like a big makeup department store-much like Sephora! It has its own "ulta" brand but, unlike sephora, is also has the cheaper makeup drugstore brands as well as select higher end brands. It carries nailcare, haircare, bath and lotions, perfumes etc, as well as makeup! It even has some things for men :) So I've obviously been going crazy shopping here, they have NYX and thats one great brand that we seriously lack in Montreal. Naturally, since NYX is renowed for its round lipsticks, I bought... a whole bunch. I also grabbed a beautiful gold eyeliner for New Years but I can see myself wearing this guy on many nights out! It goes with all colours! :)

My Haul! Broken down below :)

Left to right: Lorac blush in Soul, NYX ultimate pearl e/s in Golden Pink Pearl, NYS e/s in Frosted Lilac

Same order as above but with flash

Urban Decay 24/7 liquid liner in El Dorado

NYX round lipsticks: Louisiana, Chloe, Rosebud, Femme, Tea Rose, Chaos, Fig, Paris, Indian Pink
Artificial light without flash

Same order as above but with flash.

I'm having fun getting to try all these different colours! Cheaper versions of colours are so much easier cause you really begin to learn what you like.
I will do swatches for all the above items, i'll have to break the NYX lipsticks in two posts since I want to do lipstick swatches :)
The only one that looks tricky so far in the NYX golden pink pearl eyeshadow, it doesn't look super pigmented but it is veeeery pretty in the pan! I need to find a way to work around that hehe
I have just spent so much money at this Ulta! I should seriously be put away, some please take away my plastic, this addiction is killing meeeeee. Where is cosmetic rehab?

Officially addicted to makeup!!

Beauty Gifts: Smashbox Be Discovered

12/27/11

I think my family's caught on to my cosmetics addiction... and is feeding it. They bought me this huge holiday palette from Smashbox. And i looove it! I've already tried a few shades, its mostly neutrals, its pretty nice. Here are some pictures:

Artificial light without flash

Artificial light with flash

My parents also put this little guy in my stocking! A wild cherry pepsi lipbalm, it actually works quite well for a lipbalm and I love the scent ;)

In the smashbox palette there are 45 eyeshadows, 6 blush/bronzer/highlighters, 9 cream (or gel?) eyeliners and 6 lipglosses. I also got 4 mini brushes as well!
There is some fallout and some of the lighter shades don't show up as well as the rest.
For a good review here is a link: http://www.makeupandbeautyblog.com/product-reviews/youre-destined-for-fame-and-fallout-with-the-smashbox-be-discovered-holiday-palette/

Her criticisms are quite good, although I still quite like the palette and am exploring my options! :)

I'm not sure if I'll do swatches for this palette, what do you ladies think? Do you want to see swatches?

FOTN: Missing Spring's Warmth

12/27/11

One day when I was going out I really wanted to do a coloured eyeshadow look  instead of my regular smokey with just a hint of colour. I really had a craving for green, and thus I picked a really pretty  green that I'd gotten from Benefit.  :)  I used a darker forest green for the crease along with a lilac pink to make it more a "spring-time" look. Guess I was missing the spring season!!

Swatchtime: Chanel Velvet Matte La Raffinee

12/26/11

Good Morning ladies!!

I haven't done a swatchtime in a while! Since yesterday was Christmas I wanted to post a Christmas-related post :) So this is a late Sunday Swatchtime!
I've been lemming over getting a Chanel Velvet Matte Lipstick ever since they came out, so when I went to the Chanel counter in November I fell inlove with #34 La Raffinée. But unfortunately, it was sold out at the time! I gave the SA my number, she's been my Chanel SA for about a year now here in Montreal but I never got a phone call. After my last presentation for my class in december, I moseyed to my Chanel counter and asked to see if they finally had my colour in stock and I was in luck! Bought it on the spot while waiting for a friend to meet me :)
Here are the swatches:

Both of the last two images are with Flash.

Next time I'll try to take a picture of my bare lips so that its easier to see the colour difference.
This colour is so beautiful, a natural and bright fuchsia at the same time. Perfect for day or night in my opinion.
The velvet finish make it looks like "second skin" on my lips-as if it's almost my natural lipcolour, safe to say the pigmentation is wonderful! The wear lasts for a really good amount-as long as you dont eat-I'd say atleast 5 hours. Packaging is gorgeous, demure Chanel Allure packaging in black with the pop of gold at the bottom and the full gold lipstick shaft.
This line of lipsticks is amazing, I love the velvet finish its quickly becoming a favourite. I'll have to snag a couple more when I get the cash. These guys run for 46$ CAN each- a super steep price.

Have you ladies gotten any favourite lipsticks lately?

NOTD: Chinchilly by Essie

12/22/11

Hey you pretty ladies,
I'm back with another post!
One of my good friends bought me a fabulous nailpolish for my birthday: Chinchilly by Essie.
It's a beaaaautiful grey, most people say its a true grey but in my opinions it looks like a dusty mauve (with undertones of blues and pinks) in warm light and in harsher light it does look like a true grey.
I've gotten so many compliments on it, it's quickly becoming a favourite neutral colour :)

This is the only good picture I got out of the bunch but its simply beautiful.

What's your favourite neutral this season?

November Favourites 2011

12/4/11

Hey ladies,
Whew! It's been SO LONG since I last posted. So incredibly busy with work and school and christmas. What a busy season!
I diiiiiid want to show you gals some of my november favourites. Granted I know everyone has long posted their favourites for last months...but better later than never right? :)

From left to right: Lush Angels on Bareskin, Benefit Watt's Up, Elf Studio blush in Mellow Mauve, Nuxe Creme Prodigieuse, Revlon Colourburst Lipgloss in Crystal Lilac

Same order as above

Revlon Colourburst Lipgloss in Crystal Lilac
I love wearing this on my lips, it actually comes off semi-opaque and leave enough colour to make a difference. It's a beautiful blue-lilac based pink.

Elf Studio Blush in Mellow Mauve.
I love wearing this blush for the winter seasons. It's a beautiful berry plum with small gold microshimmers that leaves a warm flush on my face :)

Benefit Watt's Up.
I've been reaching for this almost everyday since I got it for my birthday. On my olive skintone it gives me this perfect champagne coloured glow that I put atop the Mellow Mauve blush. I love it for everyday use!

What do you ladies love to use for these coming winter months?

Swatchtime! F21 and MAC

12/3/11

Hey guys!
I know I promised swatches from my F21 and MAC haul last (November) month and here they are:

F21 duo eyeshadow

MAC all that glitters E/S

Left to right: lightest F21 duo, darkest of F21 duo, All that glitters

Left to right: All that glitters,  lightest F21 duo, darkest of F21 duo

I really like both the all that glitters and the darkest shade from the F21 duo-they're so pigmented! I have one grievance with the lightest shade is that its hard to get a good swatch or lots of pigmentation. But it may just be one of those colours that evens out the skin tone on your eyelid more than it would impart pigment onto it. That's swatchtime for today!

What do you ladies think of these swatches? Any new eyeshadows lately?

Swatchtime: MAC Long Stemmed Rose

11/26/11

Hey ladies,
I wanted to show you guys a swatch and I think I'll try to do a "swatchtime" every saturday or sunday, atleast once per week :)
Today I'm starting with a MAC product, I know this one is discontinued but its still a favourite vibrant rose. It's Long Stemmed Rose Slimshine lipstick by MAC, its a beautiful rose colour from mac with gold microshimmers in it. I find it more vibrant than other rose colours: it has more pink shades in it.
It's really lovely and glides on easily and smoothly leaving a pretty opaque colour behind.
Here you go:

Review: Watts Up by Benefit

11/25/11

Hey ladies,
Back here to report another clever and witty product by Benefit. The "Watts Up" Highlighter is a champagne highlighter, perfect for every-if not most-skintones.

Benefit's Description
"Our soft focus highlighter turns on “watt” ya got with a delicate champagne glow that’s gorgeous. With a cream-to-powder finish...it’s a switch on “wow” for all complexions. You’ll adore the smooth applicator & luminous sheen."

My Review

It's a beautiful champagne highlighter with very very small microshimmers-neutral/goldtoned. A little goes a long way with this one-the pigmentation is great! You CAN put on too much highlighter and you will look like a disco ball if you're not careful. As long as you put a light swatch on your highlight zones and make sure to blend it out-you'll be okay. This is pretty flattering on all skintones. It can lean cool if you're cooltoned and it can lean warmer if you have a warmer skintone-it's a nice neutral champagne.
The wear is great! I put it over top of my blush/powder and it lasts ALL day: from 9am putting it on to 7pm coming home, so about 8 hours or more.
The packaging is freaking ADORABLE; it shaped like a light-bulb! Can't get much cuter than that.
I also really like the twist top solid highlighter-kind of like the NARS multiples. Super easy to just swipe in on the areas and blend out. The soft knob spong at the end really has no use, you could use it to blend out but I feel as though it would take off more product than it would blend. For now I'm blending with my fingers and leaving the sponge tip as a packaging aesthetic.
The texture is super smooth, not gritty or dry, it doesn't pull or tug when you put it on. See for yourself in the swatches!

Would I repurchase this? Absolutely, I use it everyday and i definitely helps "illuminate" my skin :)

Skincare: 5 Things You Still Need To Do during Winter

11/20/11

Winter is a season where we need to [usually] change up our skin routine since the weather becomes colder and drier. But there are a few key things we do during summertime that we still need to do even during the winter and all year round.

Image from: http://www.zoskinhealth.com/blog/tag/skincare-ingredients/

1. Moisturize. This may seem like a no-brainer, but during all times of year, you must moisturize your face for your skintype. This keeps your face hydrated and soft-especially if you have dry skin. If you have oily/combination skin, it helps keep oils at bay which may seem a bit counterintuitive and hydrates your skin.  It's like a tall, cool drink of water for your skin :) (this goes for your body as well-moisturize!)

2. Exfoliate. Again a no-brainer, especially for you girls that love to exfoliate :) Living in a city I get hit with cold, dry winds, pollutants in the air, not to mention I touch my face all day long (gross right?). All this can cause bacteria and dirt that clog my pores, and that exacerbate the first layer of dead skin cells. It's important to get rid of dead cells so you dont get spots, zits or blackheads/whiteheads. That is not to say that if you have them they will go away overnight with a good scrub. To keep these at bay you have to have a good skincare routine.

3. Wear Sunscreen. This one may not be so obvious, especially in the winter. But UV rays can even be more harmful when there's snow on the ground. Snow reflects the light back to our face and exposed skin, allowing more sunlight to hit your face. It's so important to have a good SPF moisturizer since it helps prevent dark spots, fine lines and wrinkles. Don't forget to apply it to your neck and decolletage! Check out Littomokaa's blog post video for a couple good ones she suggests during her skin care routine!

4. Wear Sunglasses. Just like for the reason #3, snow reflects sunlight and days may seem brighter when the sun is out for that reason. We also tend to squint when it's that bright out, therefore it's important to wear sunglasses so your eyes don't acquire any damage and for fine/lines and wrinkles.

5. Drink Water. Last but definitely not least, it may not be as hot and you may not be as inclined to drink water in the winter, but make no mistake it is just as important to drink 8 glass of water a day. Water helps flush out toxins that harm you inside and out and keeps your skin hydrated. Fluids like broth in soups also help in the same ways.

Do you ladies have any winter skincare tips?
