January 2011 Favourites!

1/31/11

I really love learning everyone else's favourite products of the month and I wanted to be able to the same for my readers! I love makeup products soo much and I looove buying and talking about them. Soo I think starting today I'm going to give myself a makeup products BAN for 1 mth (28 days). Let's see how this goes...
On to the favourites now!

Starting from the LEFT:
Covergirl LashBlast Mascara- I love this mascara, It makes my lashes so long, voluminous and it really lasts throughout the day. Obviously when I get home I have to touch it up before going to any event, but still that's about 8 hours of lashtime!
Chanel Extrait de Lacquer in Genie- When I tried this lipgloss on at the  Chanel counter the lady told me, Oh everyone that tries this one always walks away with it. I thought to myself, I don't make impulse purchases like that. I tried it, and bought it-so much for self discipline :P This colour is gorgeous creme peach color with a some pink so it doesn't come off ORANGE. I looove it! It looks great over the Coco Egerie Lipstick.
Revlon PhotoReady Liquid Foundation in Golden Beige 008- Great foundation, I wear this everyday and it gives me a nice very subtle glow without looking like a disco ball. HG drugstore foundation.
MUFE Aqua Eyes Eyeliner in 10- I got this in a giftset for christmas and I have reviewed it yet but I've been reaching it quite a bit. I love how it goes on smoothly and gives me the blackest, sleekest look. I use it mainly for my waterline.
Chanel Joues Contraste in Reflex 82- I love love love this blush! Its a gorgeous coral rose, complements and highlights my cheeks! HG blush so farr as well- I wear this everyday :)
L'Oreal Eyeshadow in Copper Penny 410- This is a great natural neutral taupey-beige. I love it and I wear this to work sometimes. I also have used this in a dark brown look as well. (See previous post) It's just a versatile colour that I find myself grabbing a lot lately.

Any favourites so far in the New Year for the rest of you ladies?

Nudey Brown FOTN

1/29/11

I've been very into naturals and browns/black lately. I always picture a beautiful woman walking on St. Catherine's looking effortlessly beautiful in her "natural" look. Here in Montreal St. Catherines is THE main shopping street-it's a never ending road with never ending boutiques. Don't get me wrong, you can tell she's wearing makeup but it seems as though she fixed it up in a quick New York minute and graceful glided out the door in all her fabulous-ness. I love the look, it just brings such mystery to the table.
This month restaurants in the old port (vieux port in french) are doing a Montreal Gourmand Happening. A handful of these restaurants lower their Table D'Hote (3 course meals) to about 10-15 less than the regular price. So its a real bargain and you get to try out some of the nicest places in town! Some of my girlfriends and I went to Vieux-Port Steakhouse-it was deeeeeelicious!! I got tenderloin medallions (so filet mignon) with vegetables and roasted garlic mashes potatoes (I miss it already girls...).
This is the look I wore out tonight:

What I used:
Face
MAC NC 20 ProLongwear Concealer
Revlon PhotoReady in Golden Beige 008
MAC Studio Fix Powder in NC 30
Chanel Joues Contraste in Reflex 82
Eyes
MAC Ricepaper Eyeshadow (highlight)
L'Oreal Copper Penny 410 Eyeshadow (all over lid)
MAC Antiqued Eyeshadow (crease and outer v)
Sephora liquid liner in Black
MUFE Aqua Eyes Pencil Liner in 10
Covergirl Lashblast Mascara in Black
Lips
Revlon Colorburst Lipstick in Soft Nude 070

I love this colour combo on the eyes and I feel like for a brown-eyed girl this really makes your eyes stand out! I'm also starting to really like this Soft Nude lipstick by Revlon. I'll be doing a review on that a little later. :)

Kim Kardashian Natural Look

1/26/11

I got the new Glamour magazine with Kim Kardashian on the cover and I loved her gorgeous natural makeup look. She has a brown to dark brown/black look going on with a cute bright pink lip and she looks phenomenal (as ALWAYS).

 Close up of Kim's look.

Now she didn't use eyeliner for her look so I lined my eyes with some black eyeshadow. My version of the look seems much lighter in photos altho its much darker in person (I'm not sure how that is...).
I'm not going to make this post long with text just pictures :)

Drugstore Finds: L'Oreal

1/26/11

Good Evening Beauties :)
I know most of us are just blossoming with our careers or are still in school, etc. So expensive and high end makeup can be really difficult to afford, especially in large quantities. I  have to say I'm definitely the splurge-er when it comes to high end makeup (hello MAC and Chanel addictions!) but I do love a good drugstore find because that means more mulah for me! (mulah=money!) So far I've found some great drugstore foundation (revlon photoready) thats a few bucks cheaper than the higher end stuff. I also love to use a drugstore eyeliner (that's a review to come ladies). These products keep our wallets happy while keeping us happy at the same time-it's a win-win!! :)
The other day I was shopping at Shoppers (pharmaprix for you Quebecois here) and came across a L'Oreal eyeshadow sale! These little shadows went from like 8$cad to 2$!! SUCH a steal! So I bought the three that I saw which I liked most:
1. Copper Penny 410
2. Golden Olive 325
3. Glistening Sea 310

From left to right: Copper Penny, Golden Olive, Glistening Sea.
Same order for the swatches.

So as for a review of these babies. They are all smooth and glittery but not overly so. They have the right amount of shimmer without being too obvious. Their textures all vary but none of the colours are chalky, they all have decent consistency and go on smoothly. Golden Olive is by far my favourite, just one swatch/streak and its sooo soo pigmented! I also love Copper Penny, it's a lighter colour than Golden Olive so you need a couple more swipes to get it super dark. For me it's more of an all over natural shimmery copper (hence the name) and its shimmery so its definitely a good nude and a good every day colour. Glistening sea is a pretty but VERY light blue. I need a good few swatches to get this colour to go darker. I have to say, its a great base for any look and would work great as an all over the lid colour albeit the lightness of it. This is a colour that would work wonderfully on fair skin tones without being too overwhelming. I'm going to try and do a "Mermaid" type look with this colour, something wearable for weekend daytime shopping :) Colours are perfect for spring!

What's your favourite drugstore find so far??

Gold and Olive Inspired FOTN

1/22/11

So while browsing through a two month old issue of InStyle I saw this add for this charm bracelet featuring yellow gold and olive and rose gold. I couldn't stop staring at it the colours were absolutely G-O-R-G-E-O-U-S!! I knew I had to cut it out and use it as inspiration for a look-so I did :)
For this look I used an yellow gold eyeshadow (with a bit of an rusted tint to it when it's on my eyelid) and an olive with a gold shimmer. I love these colours; not only are they super in for Fall/Winter but they are vibrant enough that I love to use them in the summer! Especially the rusted gold-it just brings out the eyes so well.

What I used:

Face
Revlon Photoready Golden Beige 008
MAC Studio Fix NC 25
Chanel Joues Contraste Reflex 82 (Cheeks)
MAC Bronzer in Matte Bronze (Contour)
Eyes
MAC "Ricepaper" (highlight)
MAC "Amber Lights" (all over lid)
L'Oreal "325 Golden Olive" (crease)
MAC "Carbon" (outer V)
Oriflame stylo eyeliner in Black
Covergirl LashBlast Mascara in Black
Lips
MAC "Half n' Half" lipstick
MAC "Instant Gold" lustreglass

It's a more natural and lighter FOTN. Although if you wanted to make it more smokey and sultry all I'd recommend is using L'Oreal Golden Olive all over the lid and MAC Carbon for the outer crease and just some black eyeliner and black mascara. It's definitely a easy "Day into Night" look :) L'Oreal's Golden Olive is a really lovely colour: its pigmented enough that you can get a good swipe on the first try but you can also build it up for a darker version!

What are your favourite olive eyeshadows?? I also really love MAC's Sumptuous Olive!

E.L.F. January Sale-Ends -01/24/2011

1/20/11

Hello again Beauties!
I just wanted to tell you guys about E.L.F.s greaaaaaat offers online right now! It's not easy for me to find E.L.F. in Canada so I buy a lot of my stuff online or when I go visit my parents! Although, just to let you canadian girls know, I believe I saw e.l.f. products at Zellers, if anyone has any other places in Canada you can find e.l.f. please let me know!
Anyways, e.l.f. is having a 50% sale on Achelle's "resort" and "winter" picks. This features a variety of e.l.f. studio products such as the cream blush, the cream eyeliners, minty lipglosses (a favourite!), eyebrow kit, cream eyeshadows, etc. (ie. A LOT OF STUFF IS 50% OFF!!) And if you know e.l.f. then you know that its pretty much from either 6 or 3$ each to like 3$ to 1.50$ each and that is SUCH a bargain.
Photo Credit: Taken from eyeslipsface.com; full credit given to www.eyeslipsface.com

Now if you don't like any of the featured product they also have a free shipping for orders 25$ or over.
Unfortunately, you can't combine the coupons, but for me the "Achelle's picks" offer was a better deal and I saved me a bit more than the free shipping would have.
The sale ends January 24, 2011, so in just FOUR days so hurry up!

Now some of the things I'm picking up are: Cream Eyeshadows, Cream Eyeliners, Blushes and some Lipglosses. I'm going to do a review on these items when they come in. I'm very very excited to try them out!
All these items can be found here

Will you guys be getting anything?? And if you are, what will you be getting?

À Bientôt Mes Amours,

**I am in no way, shape or form affiliated with E.L.F. They do not pay me or tell me to say these things. I am buying lots of discounted goodies form their site and thought you guys would like to know about the sale!**

Late Winter Look: Snow White Inspired

1/15/11

Hello Beautiful People!
With school/work and everything else getting back into gear life has been super hectic yet again! I haven't had much time to post but planning on posting a lot more! :)
Anyways, the other day I went for some drinks with a girlfriend and decided to only put my foundation and blush, no matte bronzer or even my all over glow bronzer (which I usually put on when I'm feeling rather pale, like during Winter!) and some wine coloured lipstick which I diluted a little using lip balm for a sheer, glossier finish. I call it my Snow White inspired look, even though I look a little paler than I like to, the overall look works IMHO.
Without flash in artificial lighting.
With flash in artificial lighting.
**Obviously, the flash makes my skin look A LOT more discoloured.
Fish face for fun! :P

I left the eyes relatively simple only using a highlighter and a shimmery all over the lid shade with eyeliner/mascara. My lips I let be dramatic this time, using a darker wine colour that this season definitely calls for. It's a very subtle but effortlessly sexy look for the evening.

What I used:
Face
Revlon Photoready Golden Beige 008
MAC Studio Fix NC 25
Chanel Joues Contraste Reflex 82 (Cheeks)
Eyes
MAC "ricepaper" (highlight)
NARS "Silent Night" (all over lid)
Buxom liner in Leatherette
Covergirl Lashblast mascara in Black
Lips
Nivea Hydrocare lip balm (underneath)
Chanel Rouge Coco Rivoli 21 (on top)

Foundation Favourites Part 2

1/11/11

Sorry I've been so late with this post guys! I've had a busy few days with work, school and events!
So this is going to be the second part to my foundation favourites previous blog spot. I  just wanted to show you guys how I get very even-toned and covered skin without the oily-ness or the dry-ness. I just want to note that you DO have to moisturize your skin before applying any sort of foundation. Particularly because foundation can amplify the look of dry patches or dry bumps on your face-which is very unflattering. I will show you guys how the concealer, liquid foundation and setting powder look on my skin. Hopefully you guys will find this useful and let me know how I can better my posts-constructive criticism :)
So before you guys start to scream/run off scared. THIS is what it's like NOT to have any makeup/foundation at all! So don't be scared, I'm covering up very soon! :)
Now I have my MAC NC 20 Pro-longwear Concealer on me. It's a little light but that way it won't create shadows or darker spots on my face when I use a liquid foundation and powder on top of it. I like to apply this with a brush: usually, I put a dollop of concealer on the back of my hand and use the brush little by little to cover up all the spots that need covering, and Voila!

Left Picture- I put on my Revlon Photoready Foundation in 008 Golden Beige using a 187 MAC Brush, pumping a bit (as much as you feel you need-I usually use half a pump for half my face) onto my brush and then stippling it all over my face. Hence the Golden Beige coloured chicken pocks on my face!
Right Picture-After I stipple the foundation onto my face I blend it using my 187 brush from MAC again. I buff it in until all the excess is product is off my brush and I get that flawless covered finish.
Afterwards, I apply my MAC studio fix powder to set in the liquid foundation (Part 1 explains this a little more in detail-check out the post below this one!)
Okay, I have to admit, I look a little pale in this one, but I SWEAR it does NOT look this pale! Anyways, do you see what I mean with the coverage? My chin and cheeks are alot more even (I'm sorry if the picture is a little blurry) It's a pretty solid plan every morning and by the time I get home at around 6 or 7 (Getting to work at 930am, then gym, etc) I still look (drum roll, please) like a GIRL. It's amazing. The best routine I've tried so far, do you guys have any Holy Grail routines? :)

Foundation Favourites Part 1

1/4/11

Hello Beauties
Happy New Year!
In honour of the new year I wanted to show you guys the products I use to get an amazing and even-toned face. I've fortunately tried products that work great for me, but that doesn't mean I won't be trying out other types of foundations. The next one I plan on trying out is Revlon's Colorstay Liquid foundation. I've heard (and read) great things about that liquid foundation and am curious to see if it really is better than what I use now.The products I'm showing you ladies are mainly just the concealer and foundations, but I do also use some blush (Chanel reflex) and occasionally highlighter (Benefit girl meets pearl) on the days when I feel especially drab.
I use MAC prolongear concealer, Revlon photoready liquid foundation and MAC studio fix compact powder.

First I apply MAC pro-longwear concealer in NC20 with my ecotools concealer brush and blend away. I put this underneath my eyes, over any blemishes and on the sides of my nose at its base where the creases are the darkest. This little trick actually makes your nose look a lot smaller and eliminates excess shadows from your face which can be really unflattering.

Next I use Revlon Photoready Liquid Foundation in 008 Golden Beige using my MAC 187 stippling brush. I apply half a pump for half of my face, blend that away then apply another half pump for the other half of my face and blend that away. I usually buff the excess foundation that remains on the brush until I get an airbrushed look that I am happy with. This foundation is absolutely great, its medium coverage so it doesn't look too cakey and it makes your skin glow so I don't always use highlighter with this one. Some reviewers have debated on whether this foundation contains shimmers or not. Well I'm here to tell you that it does, but they are extremely FINELY milled. They are so small that you have to literally see them under spotlights (you know those bright lamps they use in the MAC stores). Your face will NOT look like a disco ball.

Finally I apply my MAC studio fix compact powder (either in NC 25 or NC30 depending on the time of year, but usually I will stick with NC30- I find the NC25 to makes me look pale, why did the MAC MUA recommend it??) using my Quo large powder brush (Quo brand can be found at shoppers drug mart across Canada). This sets your foundation and keeps it from budging! Setting your foundation with powder (either tinted or translucent) absorbs the moisture from your liquid foundation so that your foundation won't smudge or leak and it also helps control oils. Be aware that you do not apply too much powder onto your face-this may give you a very cakey look.

This really gives me a flawless finish and a great canvas for looks or just for everyday school/work. I look airbrushed but not obviously so and my face makeup does not look cakey (granted I don't put too much powder on). In the next couple days I'm hoping to take this a step further and show you the process of how this looks on my face-comparing one side that's done to a side that has no makeup whatsoever. I'm really loving this combination of products. What are your preferred foundation products?

In lieu of the new year I've also set some goals for myself. Now I don't believe in setting strict goals, just because those generally work out for about a month and are too harsh to really be included in any lifestyle routine I may have. But I do plan on continuing my workout (usually 2-3 a week) and maybe taking another bellydance course- I really want to tone up some areas that have gained a few pounds over the months. I am also going to ameliorate my eating. In 2010 I was eating fairly healthy but now I'm going to look for new ways to spice up my healthy eating so I don't "stray" or "cheat" on my good eating habits. I ALSO going to try to go to bed before 2am during weeknights (as I'm finishing this post up by 1am haha)-it's a really bad habit I have and in order to accomplish my above goals I have to get a good nights rest!
