Skincare: 5 Things You Still Need To Do during Winter


Winter is a season where we need to [usually] change up our skin routine since the weather becomes colder and drier. But there are a few key things we do during summertime that we still need to do even during the winter and all year round.

1. Moisturize. This may seem like a no-brainer, but during all times of year, you must moisturize your face for your skintype. This keeps your face hydrated and soft-especially if you have dry skin. If you have oily/combination skin, it helps keep oils at bay which may seem a bit counterintuitive and hydrates your skin.  It's like a tall, cool drink of water for your skin :) (this goes for your body as well-moisturize!)

2. Exfoliate. Again a no-brainer, especially for you girls that love to exfoliate :) Living in a city I get hit with cold, dry winds, pollutants in the air, not to mention I touch my face all day long (gross right?). All this can cause bacteria and dirt that clog my pores, and that exacerbate the first layer of dead skin cells. It's important to get rid of dead cells so you dont get spots, zits or blackheads/whiteheads. That is not to say that if you have them they will go away overnight with a good scrub. To keep these at bay you have to have a good skincare routine.

3. Wear Sunscreen. This one may not be so obvious, especially in the winter. But UV rays can even be more harmful when there's snow on the ground. Snow reflects the light back to our face and exposed skin, allowing more sunlight to hit your face. It's so important to have a good SPF moisturizer since it helps prevent dark spots, fine lines and wrinkles. Don't forget to apply it to your neck and decolletage! 4. Wear Sunglasses. Just like for the reason #3, snow reflects sunlight and days may seem brighter when the sun is out for that reason. We also tend to squint when it's that bright out, therefore it's important to wear sunglasses so your eyes don't acquire any damage and for fine/lines and wrinkles.

5. Drink Water. Last but definitely not least, it may not be as hot and you may not be as inclined to drink water in the winter, but make no mistake it is just as important to drink 8 glass of water a day. Water helps flush out toxins that harm you inside and out and keeps your skin hydrated. Fluids like broth in soups also help in the same ways.
