Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

Merry Christmas to all!
I wish you love, light and happiness on this wonderful day. May you all have the chance to be with your loved ones.
This is the stuff of books!

I had such an amazing day, we ended up opening the presents last night at about 2a.m. since I had to leave for work today (I'm leaving in a few actually!) and my parents wanted to cook the turkey and prepare other christmasey things today. Mmmm and what a lovely time/meal it was.
My cat was the best part, we were all around the tree waiting for my dad to grab the camera, and he comes and sits right infront of all the presents...just waiting, as if he was like "so where's my present?" Haha he's the cutest. Of course, we gave it some succulent turkey amidst kitty treats.

How did you celebrate the holidays?

Swatchtime: L'Oreal Violet Chiffon 175 Colour Riche Lipstick

Oof! It's been a while. I can't lie, but I've been extremely swamped. As most of you know, the last couple weeks before the holidays are the craziest of the year! Everyone is trying to wrap all untied ends in order to enjoy the holidays guilt-free, including myself.

Bare Lips
Lips with the L'Oreal Violet Chiffon 175

Violet Chiffon Colour Riche Lipstick (175) can go on much brighter with a few more coats. I love the effect and impact a violet can have, it's so unusual and really brightens up yellow-gold based complexions like mine.

I haven't worn it very much since I got it recently, so a review will have to wait. But so far, I love it and would completely buy another! I dont think its fully opaque but definitely a beautiful light lipstick.
I'd also like to add that the packaging is very simple and elegant, as well as being lightweight. This is great when you perpetually have a purse-full of goodies on the go (like me)!

Have you ladies tried these lipsticks? What do you think? Would you like a review on this one?

NOTD: You Only Live Twice by OPI

I was sauntering through the mall just minding my own business and doing my Christmas shopping, when a vile of beautiful sparkly ruby-fuchsia liquid caught my eye. It was OPI's You Only Live Twice nail polish from the Skyfall [James Bond] collection.

How gorgeous is this? You can totally see the gold and fuchsia sparkles in this picture.

I will totally be rocking this in any season, it's a beautifully rich show-stopper of a colour. It looks quite stunning against my olive skin, or skin with yellow/gold undertones.

What do you ladies think? Have you gotten any of the Skyfall Collection nail polishes?

Skincare Tips from an Expert

If you don't already know, then you definitely will now: I am absolutely passionate and fascinated by skincare, especially recently! That being said, I don't always take impeccable care of my skin, it's pretty robust, but I do like using the best possible products on my skin.
In the link below, on Temptalia's blog, Renee Rouleau talks about some great skincare tips.
For some of you, these may seems fairly obvious, but for others it will be great to hear them from an expert! I found some of them helpful to hear again and others were totally new to me.
Her two main points involve exfoliation, why you should do it and circulation in your facial skin, why that's important for now and in the long run. It's definitely worth a read if you haven't checked it out yet !

A Date/Holiday Look #1

I've been wanting to do some make up looks for quite some time now. So far, I have a few looks that I wear often and especially during the holidays. My goal is to be a little more bold and different with my makeup, but first I'll be posting more traditional holiday looks ;)
Of course, suggestions are always welcome!
Here is the first one:

*Please excuse the super awkward selfies, I always find I look really awkward when taking photos of myself, but I'm working on finding an angle that doesn't make me look too distorted*
If anyone has any suggestions, they would be greatly appreciated!

Revlon ColourWhipped Foundation in 250 Beige
MAC ProLongwear Concealer in NC20
MUFE HD Micropowder
Tarte Amazonian Clay blush in Natural Beauty

MAC e/s Ricepaper (highlight)
L'Oreal Infallible e/s in Amber Rush (all over lid wash)
Covergirl Waterproof Lash Blast Mascara

NYX lipliner in Cabaret
Dior Extreme Addict in Bellissima 789

A super easy look that features the red red lips as they star of the show. You can play around with eyeshadow washes form gold, to nudes, to mattes, as long as they don't take the spotlight away from the lips! I think this look is also appropriate for a date, although maybe not for a first date since the red can tend to be quite intimidating on a first meeting; it's definitely a nice holiday dinner date or for a soirée to the ballet.
I love red lips, and so you will probably see a lot more of that during the holiday season.

What are you some of your favourite or signature holiday looks?

Striking Sweet Novembers

Happy December!
Officially the last month in the year of 2012, and what a year it's been! There have been so many ups and downs, but still my makeup collection grows. Probably the only constant thing in my life, which just adds to the reasons I love it so much. Stability is something I've always yearned for, but with a fast-paced life and career, it's hard to achieve.

On to some of my makeup loves for November:

Lush Brazened Honey Mask- I can do a review on this if you ladies want to know more. But basically, it's great for my troubled areas and leaves my skin feeling rejuvenated and smelling like honey!

Lush Eau Rome Water Toner Spray- I have combination skin and after I give my face a good wash in the evenings before bed I always pat this on afterwards. It gives my face some moisture without being overly greasy.

Le Crayon Khôl de Chanel in Blanc- I always wanted to try a white or beige pearl eye pencil for my bottom lashline. I'm glad I finally did! A light wash of this on my lower lashline (in the waterline) is great for making your eyes a little bit brighter and bigger. I don't need a lot of product at all and can see this product lasting a while, which is an extra bonus.

Clarins Gelee Eclat du Jour- Do you remember when you were a little girl, watching your mother apply her creams and makeup at her vanity. There was always a very distinct smell that came from her right before she put on her perfume (Cristalle by Chanel) and it was Clarins products! Clarins does not put any added fragrance in their products and they all smell like lovely fresh flowers and plants. A very botanical scent. Not to mention it moisturizes my face perfectly and my facial skin never ends up being greasy. Again, a very important factor for someone who has combination skin.
Doesn't hurt that I think of my momma every morning :)

L'Oreal Infallible Eye Shadow in Amber Rush- This has been in my favourites before, and some of you may remember it already. This is just a lovely metallic coral with coppery tones in it. I wear it as an every colour, just a wash over my lid, and it really makes me look just that much more put together. I don't put on a lot of makeup from day to day, I think I've been concentrating way more on skincare than actual make up lately. So all in all, this colour is definitely worth a shot! I think it would work on various skintones being particularly stunning on darker skintones. (You can get this at most local drugstores.)

What are your favourite products this month? Have you tried any of the products I posted above?

Girlie Holiday Gifts for your Beauty Lover | Under 50$

It's definitely that time of year again! The time where you have to buy gifts for the loved ones and sometimes the not-so-loved ones. It's not always easy to shop for your family&friends but I always love giving some cute beauty (or bath) gifts. Most of the time I put little gifts together myself,
Here are some gift picks for that beauty love in your close circle!
All of these products can be found online at Sephora, and most of them can be found at your friendly neighbourhood Sephora store.
Oh man, this excites me so much and I might even buy it for myself haha. This is the Ciaté Caviar Mini  Bar and it features eight products (as show) four of which are the caviar pearl products and the other four are regular nailpolish colours. It also comes with a funnel so that you don't waste as many caviar pearls! I loooove the caviar products and have been craving them so much!
Priced at $30.00 CAD.
The bareMinerales Ready Luminizer is a beautiful rose gold highlighter. I swatched it at the store and it's absolutely gorgeous. Now if your friend (or you) doesn't like shimmer, then stay away from this one cause it definitely has shimmer. This guy has recently popped up in a lot of blogs and is getting some great ratings. I may just have to grab this one for myself! I know it's not a giftset, but for a makeup lover this is a great gift to get!
Priced at $33.00 CAD.

This is a great giftset from Dior, usually their products are insanely expensive and they never have giftsets of this value! This is the Diorshow New Look set which features their infamour Diorshow mascara and a mini palette of Royal Khaki. If you ever wanted to try some Dior, or to gift some Dior, this is a great set!
Priced at $35.00 CAD.
The Sephora Give Me Some Lip gift set is amazing for the lip gloss lover or just for the girl who doesn't have enough lip products and is always asking to borrow yours! This way she (or even he!) can try different brands, textures and colours.
Priced at $30.00 CAD and the Sephora says its a 94$ value!

I've always thought that Too Faced products were the cutest things. Aside form Benefit, Too Faced always find a way to make their products not only great in quality but great in packaging! I'm a girl who loves great packaging and this brand always catches my eye.
This is the Too Faced Perfect Collection and it's available only online at (or It features their poreless primer, the blush/bronzer, a nude shimmery mulitpurpose powder (a.k.a. Glamour Dust) and a nude lipgloss.
Priced at $40.00 CAD.

If all else fails and you really can't figure anything out, or you want something less pricey, I always love to make my own little gift sets. That way you can choose what you think your friend or loved one will enjoy (which might even make it more personal) and its price point!

Do you guys have any great Christmas gift ideas, beauty or non-beauty specific?
I always love hearing from you!

Swatchtime: Regard Signé de Chanel Eyeshadow Palette

I had to. I just... had to.
I had been trying not to buy it for weeks but then I caved!
I've been wanting to buy a Chanel Palette for quite some time now and my favourite palettes always come out in the Fall or in the Winter.
This winter, Chanel came out with some of the most beautiful colours in a palette called Regard Signé de Chanel! The palette has four shadows: a gold, a bronzey taupe, a plum and cool toned rose.
I also got a Crayon Khôl in 65 Blanc from Chanel and a sample of their new mascara: Le Volume de Chanel in 01 Noir.

Left to Right: Gold shadow, Taupe shadow, Plum shadow, Light Pink shadow and Crayon Khôl in 65 Blanc

The white eye pencil is super pigmented and I don't need much in the waterline of my bottom lashline. A light wash of this will do and it instantly opens up my waterline! I'm already loving it. The pencil also seems to be longer than the average eye pencil, in other words I get more product.

The palette is just lovely. All the shades go on smoothly. The swatches above were done very lightly since I didn't want to ruin how the palette looked. I still just stare at it for fun, I don't even want to wear it yet! haha
I know for a fact that these shades are light reflecting, so they are super dazzling at full pigmentation!
I want to do a full review of this product, but that will come in due time.

You can grab Le Regard Signé de Chanel, Le Crayon Khol in 65 Blanc and Le Volume de Chanel mascara at your local Chanel counters. Unfortunately, Sephora doesn't carry Chanel, but the Bay and Macy's, as well as other big department stores, do carry Chanel! (I got mine at the Bay here in Montreal)

What do you ladies think of this palette? Have you tried any of these products?
I always love hearing your thoughts!

SwatchTime Dior Holiday 2012 Palette

For my birthday, about a month ago, a friend gifted me with this lovely Dior Holiday Palette. (I love her for fueling my obsession with high-end makeup! It was such a nice gift) Now I know you've seen this one before in my haul posts but I wanted to give you a closer look at some of the swatches.

Here you can see the gorgeous velvet pouch and a mini size DiorShow mascara attached to it. Perfect for travel!

Super sleek packaging. Black shine with classic silver Dior embossing.

It even comes with a plastic protectant that specifies the names of each product. Really handy!

It comes with a mini Diorshow mascara, an eye primer, a brown brow tint/wax, the three shadows, a dual ended brush and a brown pencil liner!

From left to right: Brown Brow Tint, Darkest Brown Shadow, Medium Shimmer Brown Shadow, Off-White Shimmer Shadow and Brown Pencil Liner.

This Dior Holiday Palette, released for the 2012 Holidays, is really a very neutral palette. I know I can use this for an everyday sort of smokey eye or a dramatic brown smokey eyes. This can also be used just for a shimmery neutral eye, and depending on how you feel that day you can play it up, as in more pigmentation on your eye, or play it down and use a light hand for a subtle and natural look.
So even with three colours, I find it very versatile! And it's great for traveling when you can't bring too many items with you.
I haven't use it yet but when I do I will share with you ladies a FOTD :)

What do you ladies think of this palette? Have you guys gotten any holiday palettes this year?

Review: Revlon Whipped Creme Foundation

Everyone has been awaiting for this review, and it's finally here!
Revlon Colourstay Whipped Creme Foundation
I've always really liked Revlon, their products always deliver and they don't often make promises they can't keep. So when they came out with a new foundation they named "whipped" I had to try it! For years now I've been using the Revlon Colourstay Liquid Foundation which is an amazing drugstore foundation (one of the best!), and was more than happy to purchase their new Whipped Colourstay item. Happy to say that overall this Whipped foundation does not disappoint.
For reference I got 250 Medium Beige for my NC25-NC30 skin.

Texture: It's a cream texture, but it's more viscous than the regular Revlon Colourstay Liquid Foundation. I'd say "whipped" is a very good description of this foundation. It's not too much like a liquid, yet it's thick enough to be a cream and it's light enough to blend out very very easily.
Wear: I wouldn't say 24 hours, but after a full workday (8-10hrs) there's a little bit of fading (it might be also due to my combination skin) but it stays put pretty well! I don't do touch ups and I still feel as though I'm substantially covered. Even though I do believe it's oil free I wouldn't recommend this to ladies who would want a mattifying foundation or that have an oily complexion already.
Product: The pigmentation is quite neutral for the colour I have (250 Medium Beige). I find it more yellow toned than pink toned but even then it's far more neutral than some other foundations (like Benefits new Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow foundation). I would say this foundation is more medium coverage. It hold less product (23.7ml) than the Revlon Colourstay Liquid (30ml), which is another thing to note.
Packaging: The pot packaging is very cute and classic, but I always prefer pumps for foundations as it's a more sanitary disposal of the product. Alternatively, you can make sure to always use a clean brush or scoop out a little bit with a clean utensil.
Price: In the USA I think it's about 10$ and in Canada I think about 16-17$ depending on location. Steep enough for a drugstore (high street) product.

Would I repurchase this product? Yes! I think it's great for the Fall/Winter as it's got that extra bit of moisture and coverage that lasts. So far, it's replaced my colourstay liquid foundation.

My rating? I give it an 8/10. Docking points for the fact that it's NOT very suitable for oilier complexions and the slighter steeper price for the amount of product

What are your thoughts on this product? Have you tried the Revlon Colourstay line or the Whipped Foundation?

NOTD: Shoot for the Maroon

I'm a woman obsessed...
...with dark nail polish colours. And everyone knows it. Including one of my best friends who happens to be a straight man. So of course, for my birthday thanks to a good friend (I know you're reading this!), I got another dark polish!
Nicole by OPI in Shoot for the Maroon

Without flash in artificial light

With flash in artificial light

It's a really deep maroon colour with red and dark red glitters that emphasize the red tones even more. There's also some gold glitter which warms up the colour.

I'll be wearing this quite a bit this Fall/Winter.

What are your favourite fall nail colours?

Review: Benefit Boi-ing

Over the summertime a good friend had raved about this particular product. I tried it under my eyes on that particular summer day and it was so smooth and creamy I was so excited by how well it covered my dark circles! And then we went in for a swim, and I totally forgot about testing out the longevity of the product. I bought Benefit's Boi-ing a couple months ago at an Ulta store with that same excited feeling I had when I tried it on during that warm summer day.
For reference I'm an NC30 and I got Boi-ing in the 02 light/medium shade.

Pot of Boi-ing

Swatch of Boi-ing

Texture: The texture is super creamy and blends out very well, but in order to cover something up it tends to get really noticeable cakey.
Wear: I find it to last about 5 hours, 6 hours max (that's pushing it). I have combination skin and I have to conceal my troubled spots that break-out, like my chin or t-zone. Since those areas are oily, this concealer doesn't last very long, and when I try to apply more for touch-ups, it looks cakey.
Product: The pigmentation is good, and it's blends well with my skin. My concerns are that it creases and look cakey on my skin. It makes my oily zones look oilier and doesn't last long enough on my skin type.
Packaging: It's a flat, small pot with a twist off lid. The top is clear so you can see that's the concealer which is nice. I don't like that it's a pot and I have to stick my fingers in it, I find that it looks dirty as I use it.
Price: 25$, pretty pricey for something that doesn't last too long.

My rating? I give this a rating of 4/10. Docking major points for the price point, the noticeably cakey texture, the creasing and the fact that it does not last long enough. I definitely will not be repurchasing this. I'm going to stick with my MAC Pro LongWear Concealer for now.

What do you use to conceal your dark circles or your blemishes?

FOTN: All Those Sultry Red Tones

There are some nights where you just want to dress up and look sultry without being too obvious. Last friday was one of those nights for me. Since I was wearing Fall's most popular colour, those deep reds and purples, I decided to do a look to suit it.
I used the Smashbox Eyeshadow Palette from Christmas 2011 almost exclusively for this look.

Light Pink Blush from the Smashbox Holiday Palette '11
Light Brown Bronzer with Orange Undertones from Smashbox Holiday Palette '11

Pale White Shadow to highlight

Smokey Grey-Forest Green Shadow for the crease
-All Shadows from Smashbox Holiday Palette '11
Buxom Lashliner in Leatherette
Covergirl Waterproof LashBlast Mascara in Very Black

A Birthday Lovin' Haul

The 27th of October is my birthday. It was a lot better received that I had actually anticipated.
I got so many wonderful presents and a few of them were makeup items! I thought I would showcase them here siiiiince it's a makeup blog and I'm going to be using them. :) I do want to note though, that I did get many other terrific and wonderful presents from all my other friends <3 I wish I had taken pictures of the lovely surprise party my close friends had thrown for me! It was perfect: balloons, sparkles and cake! The cake was gone after about 10 minutes... 7 forks and 1 cake. It was so perfect. Yum :)

Thanks to my lovely friend Jenn for making me this cake ;)
Thanks guys!! <3 mrow

A friend of mine got me the Dior Holiday Palette (thank you!!) and I ended up getting myself the Gelee Eclat du Jour by Clarins. I needed a new facial moisturizer, and as I have combination skin this particular moisturizer is perfectly light.

Another friend of mine got me a nailpolish from Nicole by OPI (thank youuu!!! ;) ) called Shoot for the Maroon. I'm super eager to try it so I will be posting a Nails swatch post very very soon. I adore dark colours for Fall, Winter and even Spring!

I'll be showing all of these products in individual posts to come, but I thought I'd give them the love and attention they deserve here first. Just like I got on my own birthday. ;)
