Bellachique: Trials and Errors of Makeup

Hey Beauties,
I wanted to share a fabulous post from one of the new blogs I'm following on hellocotton: Bellachique. She's a brilliant makeup blogger and sometimes shares inspirational posts. This particular post really spoke to me as I'm always learning new makeup techniques, pairings and all around ways of doing things. It's about trying different methods and tools with different types of make up; even when we feel discouraged by a product it's good to try different ways of using it with different tools because you might just find it to be an HG! This is exactly what I discovered with an angled contour brush used with powder blushes-pure perfection.
I hope you enjoy it:

Body Shop Mini Haul

On Saturday, my money was burning a hole in my pocket. That's the honest truth.
I went downtown Montreal to grab some things to expand my wardrobe selection. I've been so bored with my clothes lately and I've not been shopping at all due to no real job (except for now! yay!). As I was browsing, I sauntered into the Body Shop, one of my favourite places for body butters and lotions of any kind, and ended up picking up purchasing...

Mmmm... Almond Body Butter (with almond oil for Normal/Dry skin) is one of my favourite scents! Body Shop was having a sale on select scents at 10$ a pop.

As it turns out, I ended up picking up the Vitamin C Eye Reviver Duo. It's said that vitamin C used topically encourages skin cell regeneration-however, I need to see the proof/scientific papers to be sure of that! Either way, I've been looking to try a cream or serum specifically for the eye area; the SAs from Body Shop were adamant that it was a great product true to its word (although, how often can you trust a SA?) and they also happened to give it to me half off since I was incredibly sceptical.

Almond Body Butter 192g-Regular Price 19$ CAD/Sale Price 10$ CAD
(It seems as though there is less product per tub now--current 192g as opposed to 196g six months ago)
Vitamin C Eye Reviver Duo (each side) 5ml-Regular Price 22$ CAD/Sale Price 11$ CAD

I will be doing a review of the Vitamin C Eye Reviver Duo after the two week mark of using it.

What do you ladies use around the eye area?

Lush Face Care (Skincare) Haul

How has everyone's weekend been? Besides Friday, I've had the most relaxing, sleep-filled, Greys Anatomy-filled (yes, re-runs) weekend. It's been nice but I'm eager to get back to work and working out this week!
Anyways, on Thursday I strolled into Lush looking for something to help my dull dull skin and to grab a little something for a friend's birthday. I've been cleaning and moisturizing but not using anything extra to give my skin a nice glow. Lush masks are so inexpensive, they only last about three weeks, but I wanted something quick for now. I really have my heart set on getting a Sisley mask, but for now I will have to grab Lush masks. I also go a couple other somethings...

I also got coal face and a sample of Vanilla Delight lotion-given begrudgingly by the Lush SA. She offered, I said yes, why does she have to be grumpy? I got a small piece of Coal Face, it was about 5$, to try out. Still not sure how I feel about hard soap for my face.

I got the BB Seaweed mask and I've used it once so far. I liked it, it made my face instantly less dull.

I'm thinking of doing a review for both these products after a few weeks of use.

Would you guys like reviews on these products?

How To: Lipcare-Moisturize

Now this may be a no-brainer for some of you. But for those of you who have dry chapped lips in the winter time--this post is for you!
Your basic care should include:
1. Water
2. Lip Scrub
3. Lip Balm
and Vaseline is optional.

Water is for you to ingest, putting it on your lips won't do any real good except getting them wet. Basically, for your lips and skin to become and remain hydrated you have to consistently drink enough water every day.
If you have very dry and chapped lips that peel, then lip scrub is a perfect answer to all that. I used to find that even with lip balm I would have these awkward flaky bits, lip scrub takes away all the dead skin before you apply topical moisturizer. Personally, I really like the Lush lip scrub in Mint Julep. You can also make a homemade one using sugar and olive oil-give it the consistency that suits you best. Usually they're more scrubby (more sugar) than oil. Ratio: about one to half.
Third is the lip balm, this will moisturize and protect your lips. I love the Nivea lip balms in Essential and Hydrocare for drugstore lip balms. Dior Lip Glow is a great high end lip balm that works wonders but tends to give a bit of colour to your lips (due to the reaction it has with the pH of your lips).
Vaseline is optional, being that it will help protect your lips but it does not moisturize. It's more of a shield.

I generally try to exfoliate my lips when they start getting flaky and I put on lip balm a few times a day. When I'm going out into the bitter winter, I tend to put some Vaseline on if I'm not wearing lipstick.

What do you ladies use to take care of your lips?

Quick post today! I saw this video last week and I was looking at Chanel's A/W 12-13 collection as well and found that this look was being used quite a bit there as well. I like the natural aspect of this look and since we're always doing such girly makeup, I thought this was a nice change of pace to spice things up a bit!

NOTD: Orly's Rage

I'm not sure why they call this colour "Rage". To me, its this gorgeous rose-gold, I'd probably call it Goddess or Aphrodite but that's probably my mediterranean frame of mind taking over.
So of course, I love anything rose-gold it just really appeals to me and it doesn't hurt that it looks great on my golden-yellow olive skin. Why do you think mediterraneans love gold so much? ;)

So here's Orly's Rage polish on me:

I find the polish to be great: its a neutral but the metallic sheen gives it a little something special.
What do you ladies think about metallic polishes? Would you wear them for Fall?

Mini Review: Kate Moss Rimmel Lipstick

As I was strolling through the beauty aisles at my friendly neighbourhood (well not my neighbourhood but my friends') drugstore. I spotted Rimmel lipsticks, by Kate Moss, on sale for 5$. Now usually the whole oh-my-gosh-a-celebrity-made-it doesn't get me excited (except for the Lady Gaga perfume, black liquid?! so cool!) but when I saw the beautiful bright pink with a hint of coral lipstick it was love at first sight. I knew then it just had to come home with me.
And so it did, and we're living quite happily ever after.

Kate Moss by Rimmel in 06

With Flash in Artificial Light

Top to Bottom: MAC Chatterbox, NYX Louisiana, Kate Moss Rimmel 06

It's a beautiful bright coral-pink lipstick. A lot brighter than either Chatterbox or Louisiana.

Pigmentation: Amazing, it's so damn bold and with one swipe on the lips the colour payoff is great.
Packaging: The kate moss red signature with the black bullet is nice. I usually don't like Rimmel's eggplant-ey (aubergine-y) sheen, but the matte black is great.
Wear: It's amazing, it just sticks on your lips; it didn't come off until I started eating. Beware though, it doesn't come off easy but it will leave a ring (as if you're wearing lipliner) on the edges of your lips.
Texture: The texture is my only problem. It's not moisturizing and you definitely need to apply a light balm underneath, or even exfoliate if you have super dry lips. It can be drying, so again if you have dry lips it may not be for you.
Price: I got it for 5$ on sale! I don't think it's over 9$ CAD though. Great price for such a good pigmented lippie.

Would I repurchase? If I ever run out, yes. If I see another colour I like from this line, I would probably purchase it.

Have you ladies tried the Kate Moss by Rimmel lipstick line?
Would you like to see a look with this lippie?
Thanks for reading and I always love hearing your thoughts :)

Hellocotton and Lancome Warnings

When I saw those little flowers spread all over the beauty blogging community I thought to myself, what is all this?? Well, I've joined this pretty little flowered community.
I am now part of Hellocotton so please follow me on there, or friend me! :)

I've also noticed on Katie's Blog My Lips But Better, that Lancome has gotten a warning from the FDA. Turns out that the claims Lancome has been making with their Genifique line, and a few others, promise to "boost proteins" or "boost genes" and by definition makes their products a drug not a cosmetic. Therefore, Lancomes products are under stricter laws for advertising and for the release of these products to the general public. Katie wrote a great post on it, click here. For the letter warning the FDA sent to the president of Lancome, click here. Very interesting, part of me is glad the FDA is intervening on products we don't know yet the long-term effects of, especially if they change or modify your body.

What do you think of this recent occurrence?
I love hearing your thoughts and thanks for reading :)

Plans are Tiny Prayers to Father Time

I love that lyric. I've recently discovered (by recently I mean 2-3 mths ago) The XX and Bonobo, and started listening to Death Cab for Cutie again. I have to say, Death Cab has some of the best lyrics I've ever heard in my life, which is the main reason why I love them. I wish I could so eloquently put emotions into words. Some people always tell me how they never listen to lyrics in a song, but to me, the lyrics make the song.
But I digress, last week a friend and I decided to checkout Montreal's Fashion Night Out. No, this is not another FNO look-at-the-all-the-beautiful-expensive-things post. I'm presenting you with the makeup I did for this night out. Needless to say, since my friend and I are so used to getting paid the measly salary of a grad student and can't imagine anyone else getting paid more, we got to these events and felt extremely out of place. It goes without a doubt that we dressed nicely, but not nearly as well-dressed as some of these bilingual fashionistas.
There's always next year.
So here's my demure makeup look.

MAC Ricepaper eyeshadow (highlight)
Light caramel shadow from Smashbox Be Discovered Palette (eyelid)
Pewter-olive shadow from Smashbox Be Discovered Palette (cease and corner of the eye)
Covergirl Waterproof Lashblast Mascara in Very Black
Smashbox Brow Tech in Brunette

Revlon Colourstay Foundation in Golden Beige
MUFE HD Microfinish Powder
ELF Powder Blush in Pink Passion

Chanel Rouge Coco Lipstick in Egerie

August Favsies

Yup I said favsies; I also say twinsies, I like it!
Now you may have noticed that my blog got a bit of a makeover. I was getting sick of the super girly theme and decided to give it a more toned-down but still feminine look. I'm sure I'll tweak it here and there but I hope you like it and I always love hearing your opinions :)

I wanted to show you guys the things I've been wearing a lot this August. Now as it's still the summer, or well now it's getting cooler but August had its hott days, I wasn't wearing as much makeup daily so this list is short.

Artificial Light

With Flash

Neutrogena UltraSheer Face Sunscreen SPF 60-
I love this, it's super sheer and once I put it on I don't feel it for the rest of the day. Of course when I'm out tanning I apply it 2-3 times but for day to day I put it under my makeup and I'm covered! I haven't gotten any breakouts and it works well with my skin :)

Revlon Colourstay Foundation- I adore this foundation line, it's my drugstore favourite. I use a darker shade for the summer and a lighter one for the winter. I never break out with this foundation, it almost helps my skin, and it covered perfectly. I've had people tell me they're confused as to how my complexion is so even, well this is a secret weapon ;)
MAC Skinfinish in Gold Deposit- I actually hadn't used this in a while, but I've been wanting to add a bit of a gold-ey glow to my skin and this was the perfect tool! I've fallen back in love with it and can see myself using it to give my face that perfect sunkissed glow.
MAC Eyeshadow in Barefoot- This is a great light gold shadow. I love wearing it as an all over wash for everyday or a base shadow for more intense makeup.
MAC Lipstick in Sail La Vie- Who knew I'd wear a bright orange lippie so often?? But I have been, especially this month. I don't wear it to work but I definitely have been wearing it on weekends away and nights out. It makes my lips fuller and gives me a perfect pop of colour when I don't wanna wear too much other makeup.

What are you August Favs? Have you guys been wearing a lot of makeup or trimming down for the heat?
