Review: Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in Natural Beauty

11/1/12

I fell in love with this product online, initially.
I had just read Essie Button's review of the famous amazonian clay 12 hour blush from Tarte in Natural Beauty and was swept off my cyber hooves.
Natural Beauty is an extremely pigmented red-rose colour, very Sleeping Beauty-esque (Disney movies anyone?)
Tarte describes it as:
"A long-wearing, supremely soft blush infused with Amazonian clay harvested from the banks of the Amazon River and naturally baked by the sun.
Product Performance: This 12-hour blush universally benefits all skin types for a fade-free, flawless finish in shades ranging from soft to vivid and matte to shimmer to suit a wide variety of skin tones.
Powered By: Amazonian clay minimizes oil in and around pores to balance skin and keep product in place while also hydrating the skin naturally to restore moisture, reducing the appearance of dry, flaky skin."

Tarte Blushes come in a clear plastic packaging, which I really dislike since it cheapens the look. Luckily you can just throw away/recycle (please recycle!) the plastic box.

These long wearing amazonian clay blushes do not contain mineral oils, parabens, petrolatum, phthalates, sodium lauryl sulfate or a synthetic fragrance.

However, they do contain: vitamin E, beeswax, vitamin C, mineral pigments, amazonian clay (obviously).

Packaging: Very sturdy, it's simple and small and round. Each blush compact is the colour of the blush inside so if you have several of these you can tell the colours apart. A mirror, same size as the package comes on the other side of the blush, which is very useful. I really like having a mirror in my compacts, means I don't have to carry an extra pocket mirror if I'm on the go.
Texture: Finely milled texture. It's very easy to layer and apply. It goes on smoothly and can be blended out. No fall-out so far!
Product (pigmentation and application): Pigmentation is AMAZING. I've never had such a pigmented blush before. This is also a downfall though, I have to be extremely careful when applying or else I'll end up looking like a clown. Application is tricky for that reason but once you get the hang of it, it applies smoothly and the product definitely blends out nicely. It's a great colour and its very flattering to my skintone (I'm NC30 for reference; as well as fairer cooler skintones). I can see myself wearing this all winter and spring.
Wear: The product claim to last 24 hrs, and while it does last a whole workday (about 7.5-8 hrs) and then fading, it does not last for a full 24 hrs on me. For reference I have combination skin, but my cheeks are never oily.
Price: Oof, pricey! I got it for 25$ in the States at Ulta. Definitely pricey for a blush, in my opinion. But it is good quality.

My rating? I'll give it an 8/10. Dock one point for price and one point for the finicky application.

What do you guys think? Have you tried any of these Tarte Amazonian Clay Blushes?
