A Prime Weekend Haul

The month of March has been such a crazy crazy month at work that it's really nice to have a four day weekend to relax! The chills of winter seem to be fading away while the warmth of spring is thawing out all of Montreal, including myself. I love spring and summer as it tends to bring out shorts, skirts, dresses, flirty outfits and some skin! I can't wait for my hair to get a little lighter, my skin to get a little darker and to rock some bright colours, both in my wardrobe and in my makeup!

I was able to shop during my long weekend and I acquired some really great things that I'm looking forward to trying and reviewing for you guys (and for me ;) )! I don't generally use primers since makeup and eyeshadow tends to stick to my face pretty well and I hate to clog my pores unnecessarily. Recently, I've really been on a mission to cover up my dark circles with makeup, along with getting my beauty sleep and drinking lots of water in order to minimize them. After trying a few new concealers at the store, one of the SA's advised me that using a hydrating under eye primer over top of my eye cream and under my concealer might really help. So I tried it in the store, at Ulta, and it absolutely seemed to make a difference after the initial application. There, I found a mini primer kit of three primer products from Smashbox, including the under eye primer I had tried and so I decided to purchase it. So far, I'm loving the under eye primer and I think it may have been my saving grace for my stubborn under eye circles!

I ended up getting the Smashbox mini primers set: the photo finish foundation primer which is oil free (great for my combination and sometime blemish-prone skin!), the photo finish lid primer (this should be a good one), and the photo finish hydrating under eye primer (my favourite of the bunch and the one I'm most excited for!).

This little package cost me a whopping 16$, whereas the full size photo finish under eye primer costs 30$ for 10ml of the product. Then, to my surprise, my sister gets an extra sample of the under eye primer, another 5ml for free (being an amazing sister, she gives it to me :D) ! I got 10ml of the under eye primer plus the half sizes of the other two primers for the 16$! It was my lucky day and I'm so so excited for all this.

All this for so little, so incredibly thrilled.

Do you ladies use primer? Which primer is your favourite so far? Have you ever tried Smashbox's Photo Finish Hydrating Under Eye primer?

March 2013 Ipsy Glambag - The Love That Won't Last

My March Ipsy Glambag came in the mail a few weeks ago, and I have to say I'm always excited to get a package in the mail! Especially when its makeup or a little gift of some sort, who doesn't love a good snail-mail surprise? So I hurried on home, opened the metallic pink bubble wrap that encased my surprise and this is what I found:

A bag full of goodies that lead to...

A bag and its insides exposed!
Five little samples, as per every Glambag...

First one being: the LA Fresh Travel-Lite Makeup Remover Wipes

Juice Beauty Hydrating Mist

Sample eyeshadow from Yaby in Seashell

Sample eyeshadow from Yaby in Azalea Petal

The GlamRX Mini Magnetic Palette

GlamRx magnetic palette open with the two little sample eyeshadows inside.

Top to Bottom: Azalea Petal then Seashell

I have to say I really liked the little bag that came with this Glambag, I always appreciate a good nautical theme, but I was very unimpressed with the quality of the mini-eyeshadows from Yaby. I'm quite surprised as to why they were included if they quality is so poor. The travel wipes and the hydrating mist are of course perfect mini size for travel and since Easter weekend is almost upon us and I will be traveling I'm excited to bring those two along with me!

About a week ago I received an invitation to join Topbox.ca another monthly beauty sample subscription. Since I've been so dissatisfied with the last couple Glambags from IPSY I decided to cancel my subscription there and join Topbox. Therefore, this love just won't last. I hope you're all as excited as I am for my first Topbox next month!

What did you think of this months Ipsy Glambag?

Winter SkinCare Products - Part Un

Skin-care is a pretty important component of my everyday routine, albeit every now and then I tend to cheat a little when "life" happens. I pay special attention to the needs of my skin from season to season with two starkly different routines in the summer and winter. Fall and spring are "inbetween" seasons for my skin and I use products as needed on a daily or weekly basis.
Today I wanted to share the products that I use for my winter skincare routine, which focuses a lot on keeping my skin hydrated, refreshed and healthy with a nice glow.

From left to right: Let the Good Times Roll cleanser from Lush, Deep Clean Facial Cleanser from Neurtrogena, Clarins Eclat Moisturizer, Coal Face Cleanser from Lush, Ginzeng eye cram from Origins and Bioderma

Coal Face!

These products are all I really need for the winter. I add a few masks here and there for good measure and to keep my skin balanced, but these are the things I use every day or every other day.
I will be making another post with my actual routine and why or how I use each product!
Stay tuned for part deux :)

What do you guys think of these skin-care products? What is your favourite product?

Strickingly Sweet Februaries

A super quick post since this week has been crazy busy!
I just wanted to share my favourite products for February, its only four products, a small bunch for the month, but I haven't had the time to experiment with too many different products lately!

I ended up choosing these four products:

Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse OR: I love this dry oil, I can literally put this anywhere on my body and it absorbs right into my skin without leaving greasy stains on my furniture or my clothes. This particular bottle has the gold glitters in it which is pretty cute for summer time if you have to have extra-glistening skin for a fun night out or a date night.
Haus of Gloi lipbalm: This balm moisturizes my lips without feeling too greasy or too waxy, I will definitely be repurchasing once I run out.
Let the Good Times Roll Cleanser from Lush: For the winter season, this gently exfoliating cleanser is perfect for cleaning my facial skin without drying it out or adding too many oils. I still need to review this item and I'm so excited to share my thoughts with you all!
OPI You Only Live Twice nail polish: I've recently discovered that this colour is pretty versatile, it looks really demure in office lighting but you can really see all the glitter and glitz in the sunlight. It looks cute on my nails and on my toes, which is certainly a huge plus in my books! I think I could wear this colour through the summer.

What were your favourites this month? What did you think about these products?

Swatchtime: Bobbi Brown Shimmer Bricks in Bronze

Who has been the victim of impulse shopping?
I certainly have. Sometimes I'll just be walking through Sephora (or insert favourite beauty store here) and some things will jump out at me and I'll have to buy them and then other things have a story behind them...
I'm pretty sure every beauty girl has has this moment of wonderment with cosmetics or skincare at some point in their young lives. You see someone you admire--a mother, older sister or a best friend--applying make-up and you really can't help but stare. It's really beautiful sight to watch a women put on her make-up for the day, akin to watching a beautiful Geisha paint her face
I had one of those moments watching a friend apply a particular product, which, in turn, made me stop in my tracks at Sephora and try it myself. In walks my impulse to buy and here I am, but this is one buy I don't regret!
Beauty gurus, make-up artists and celebrities can be great sources of new cosmetics and ideas, but most of the time my friends are largest source of inspiration.

My friend is primarily the reason I bought the Bobbi Brown Shimmer Bricks in Bronze:

Swatch of Bobbi Brown Shimmer Bricks in Bronze

MAC skinfinish in Gold Deposit and Bobbi Brown Shimmer Bricks in Bronze
First swatch is BB SB in Bronze, second is MAC in Gold Deposit

I can't wait to try this, I've swatched it but I've yet to wear it for a day (I'm thinking this weekend!). My friend looks so beautiful when she applies it and she just had this lit from within glow. It's a little more pink that Gold Deposit, so if you have a more rose-y disposition you may want to be careful with this! It's also more fine-milled than Gold Deposit at first glance which gives a more natural lit-from-within-glow in my opinion. At the store, this gave my olive-toned skin a beautiful glow. It's pricey at 49$ and it can be found at Sephora stores or online at Sephora here. I'm planning on doing a more in-depth review on this product , so stay tuned!

What do you ladies think of this product? I'm so excited to have found it! Have you guys tried this?

NOTD: Love at First Lavender

Hey Ladies!
Just a quick post as this week has been uber busy (yet again, when will it end?!). I have to say the amount of work I have at work is starting to wear on me a little and the weekend can't come soon enough. (I wish was wishing for it on Monday, but those are just details)
Anyways, I've had this nail colour for a long time now but with my ever-growing winter blues I couldn't keep it under wraps any longer.
I present to you Sation Lacquers: Love at First Lavender

Love at First Lavender nail swatch!

This picture does not show the colour at all, but I thought it looked so cool! haha

It definitely took me out of my winter blues, if only for a brief but lovely moment.
What do you ladies think about this pop of colour? Have you been missing spring and summer colours lately?
