Strikingly Sweet Mays

5/30/13

What exactly is the plural of a month? Do you just add an "s"? Mays, Octobers?
Is it Januaries or Januarys, is it Mays or Maies?
Now I digress, I came to talk about my May favourites, that is my favourite beauty, or skincare, products that I've used for the month of May!
I use a lot of similar products day to day, which rarely change, so sometimes these lists are hard to compile as I have think long and hard of what I truly enjoyed this month apart from others.
Does that ever happen to you? You just love so many products that it's hard to choose monthly favourites?

Left to Right: Smashbox Under Eye Hydrating Primer, Tarte Cheek Stain in Tipsy, Josie Maran Argan Oil (sample size!), Cuccio Colour in Texas Rose, Buxom Big and Healthy Lip Cream in Pink Lady, Korres Wild Rose Brightening and Refining Buff Cleanser (sample; daily exfoliator).

Same order as first picture.

Smashbox Under Eye Hydrating Primer
I'm sure I've mentioned this primer before, since as someone with some hardcore under eye circles this helps my delicate under eye skin stay hydrated and keeps my concealer in place. I dont think I can live without this anymore! So happy I found it.

Tarte Cheek Stain in Tipsy
When I asked my sister to get me the Tipsy blush from Tarte, I envisioned the amazonian clay powder blush instead I got the cheek stain! It was a happy accident though, since this gives me a beautiful coral flush against my light olive skin.

Josie Maran Argan Oil (sample size!)
I received a sample size of this in a Topbox recently. I was a little off-put by an "oil" product on my hair, skin, face etc. A couple weeks ago, I started moisturizing my face with this oil at nighttime, and it really has worked wonders. My face is a little less oily in the T zone area and has seemed to be clearing up any little blemishes that might pop up! Love it.

 Cuccio Colour in Texas Rose
The colour of pastel pink pops against my skin and looks great with my "squoval" nails. I've also been wearing this colour for about 7 days now and hardly a chip with no topcoat

Buxom Big and Healthy Lip Cream in Pink Lady
Saw these on EssieButton's blog and youtube channel, I decided to go to Sephora and try these out. Pink Lady really caught my attention, as it turned my lips into these bright pink perfect pouty icicles. If you're looking for a super gloss look, try out the Big and Healthy Lip Creams! I'll definitely be going back for more.

Korres Wild Rose Brightening and Refining Buff Cleanser (Sephora sample)
I got a sample of this from Sephora on my visit and quest to find a gentle but very efficient exfoliator for my face! I always find that my face can get a bit dull without proper exfoliation. Lush's Ocean Salt was far too harsh, both for the formula and the super chunky salt crystals. I really like this cleanser as it exfoliates gently and brightens my skin without leaving it dry after the cleanse.
Must. Purchase. Full-size.

What did you ladies think of these favourites? What are you favourites products for this month?

The Replacements No.1

5/28/13

I always see "Empties" Posts from various bloggers and while I really love to read the posts and watch the videos, I'm always left wondering as to what they replaced their "empties" products with.
I don't have too many empties right now, but I thought I'd start up a little post line-up affectionately name "The Replacements". Now I know you're all thinking, omgosh sexy football players! Fortunately for you all, this is a only beauty related, no pesky sexy gentlemen to take your focus away ;)

These five guys...

...got replaced by these give guys!

Left to Right: Mac Ricepaper eyeshadow and Bourjois Baked Eyeshadow in 94

Left to Right: Mac Ricepaper eyeshadow being replaced by Bourjois Baked Eyeshadow in 94

Left to Right: Swatches Bourjois Baked Eyeshadow in 94 and Mac Ricepaper eyeshadow

For now, I'm replacing or repurchasing these five products. As you can see, my NUXE Huile Prodigieuse Or and the Revlon Whipped Foundation are both repurchases, I absolutely love these products and use them on at least a weekly basis. I find that the Nuxe dry oil is a great multipurpose product, since it has the gold particles its a little difficult to put everywhere, but you can purchase or try the dry oil without the gold. I replaced my Nivea Sunny Melon Oil Shower Gel with the Nivea Apricot Shower Cream, and to be honest it was a good choice so far! I'm really loving the Apricot Shower Cream as it lathers up much better than the Melon shower gel and it smells absolutely divine. I also replaced the St. Ives Green Tea Cleanser with the good ol' Neutrogena Deep Cleanser. I actually enjoy the Neutrogena Deep Cleanser more since it deeps cleans better, which is key if you're someone who tends to get breakouts. I find the St. Ives is gentle on the skin, so you may want to try that option if your skin is sensitive and tends to get red easily. I replaced my MAC Ricepaper eyeshadow with the Bourjois Baked eyeshadow in 94 for the time being. I think I will end up repurchasing MAC Ricepaper in the end as its just an amazing highlighting shade for the browbone. I still really enjoy Bourjois Baked Eyeshadow in 94 but it can tend to be a little uneven.

Did you guys enjoy the Replacements post? I always like seeing what products people are into!

NOTD: Cuccio Colour Texas Rose

5/26/13

So as per my May 2013 TopBox, and to my great delight, I received a full sized nailpolish from Cuccio Colour in Texas Rose. I'm the kind of girl who already has a lot of pink nailpolishes, so I wasn't super impressed when I received, what I thought was, just another pink nailpolish in my May Topbox.
But, to my happy surprise, when I put this on my nails I found that it went beautifully with my olive toned skin; the colour really "popped" against my skin!  Texas Rose is a beautiful light pastel pink with yellow undertones, and since it's a simple pink colour it's easy to pull off in any season.

I personally love this colour and have even received a few compliments on it. I can attest to the fact (altready!) that I will be wearing it again and again. Good job Topbox, great pick!

Did you ladies received the May 2013 Topbox?

FaceTime: Lilac Inspired Look No.3

5/25/13

There are times where I'm afraid that I'll never be inspired to do anything creative ever again.
Inspiration doesn't come to me as if a light bulb were to go on, for me, I have to work through it a little bit and then a good idea pops into my head and I run with it. That is exactly what happened with this look. I knew I wanted to do three looks and I just hadn't come up with a finalized last look. As we were walking around the neighbourhood, it was sunny and all the trees, plants and flowers had blossomed, and it was just beautiful. I saw the lilacs against the bright and vivid green foliage and the idea popped into my head, I knew exactly what colours and products I would use.

FaceTime: Runway Inspired Look No.2

5/22/13

There's a myriad of reasons why I'm excited for the warmer weather, and as a beauty lover, that holds a lot of beauty and skincare knowledge, it's the really fun makeup looks that come out! There is just so much colour everywhere, including cosmetics. Bright turquoise eyeliner, neon orange and pink lips and cheeks with nails of all colours. It's a feast for the eyes.

Upon looking at some of Vogue's featured Runway looks I was really inspired by the one done for Mr. Michael Kors. To compliment his runway looks, the model wore minimal makeup with a thick blue line across the crease of the eyelids. The striking blue look was completed using Make Up Forever's Eyeliner in Turquoise...
Picture credit from Vogue.co.uk : http://www.vogue.co.uk/beauty/2013/04/05/sixties-spring-summer-2013-beauty-trend-make-up/gallery/960246
Of course, no woman is going to leave the house with some powder foundation and a thick, bright blue line across her eyelids, so I was inspired to create a friendlier ready-to-wear version of this look.
I kept my foundation and blush simple, not too heavy or flashy so as not to take away from the focus - the bright eyes. I stuck with a nude colour on the lips, again not to take the focus away from the point of attention. For the eyes, I took a light golden shade all over the lid and then worked a bright blue shade into the crease. This looks bold with my eyes closed, but talking to me face to face the blue only really peaks out right through the outer edge of my lashes - a perfect pop for summer!

One of those moments when I was being directed and was just like "you mean like this?" and then my nose gets all scrunched up haha. ;)

Can you see the blue peaking through? Love it!

Products used:

Face
Revlon Whipped Colourstay Foundation 250 Medium Beige
MUFE HD Microfinish Powder
NYX Beige Concealer
MAC Pro-longwear concealer in NC20

Cheeks
Chanel Joues Contraste Reflex 82

Eyes
Smashbox Brow in Brunette
Bourjois Baked Eyeshadow in 94 (light golden colour)
MAC Eyeshadow in Barefoot (all over the lid)
TheBalm "The Balm and the Beautiful" Palette in The Police Man (bright blue shadow worked into the crease)
Chanel Eye Kohl in Blanc (on top of the Barefoot above my upper lashline and in my lower waterline)

Lips
MAC Lipstick in Pure Zen (this was limited edition, but I recommend MAC Hue or Revlon Peach Petal for alternate nude lip products!)

I can tell you that I will definitely wear this look again this summer just out and about during the day, it's fun to mix things up with the warmer weather and I promise you won't look out of place! Well, maybe a little, but in a omg-she's-so-chic way ;)
If you don't have that exact blue eyeshadow colour, you can use Rimmel ScandalEyes in "Tempting Turquoise" or their mono(single) eyeshadow in "Posh Peacock". These are more affordable drugstore options!

What are you looking forward to rocking this summer? Do you enjoy bright blue eye shadows and bright blue eyeliners?

Haul: L'Oreal Warehouse Sale

5/21/13

Ever since I heard about the L'Oreal Warehouse Sale happening this May (from a friend who had another friend post about it Facebook) I have been really wanting to go. Somehow, and lucky for us, my friends mom was invited and decided to give us her extra tickets!
If you have a car, and a ticket, I recommend going to this sale and stocking up! There was quite a bit left even 3 weeks after it had started. Hair colour, shampoo, conditioner, face creams, cleansers and all sorts of anti-aging products, sunscreen, perfumes and even mens products!

I am trying to be a little more frugal with my spending and so I only got a few things that I needed or wanted to try.

Left to Right: L'Oreal Infallible Shadow in Golden Sage, L'Oreal Magic Perfecting Base, L'Oreal Studio Secret Anti-Dull Primer, Garnier Fructis Thermo-Volume Spray, L'Oreal Elnett Satin Hairspray,  L'Oreal Infallible Shadow in Sahara Treasure

The Elnett spray actually have micro shine reflectors and I'm excited to see what that's going to look like on wavy/curly hair!

Notice how these two products are the same but have different packaging. I'm sure most of you already know but they released different colours in different countries! The one on the right is a colour that wasn't released in Canada but was released in the States. I almost got it on my last trip there but I was thrilled to find it at the warehouse sale for half the price!

Top to Bottom: L'Oreal Infallible Sahara Treasure Shadow and then L'Oreal Infallible Golden Sage Shadow swatches

Overall happy with my purchases, I'm glad I bought everything and I know I'll put it to good use! I'm really glad I got the shadows and I've heard mixed reviews about the primers but still excited to try them.

Have you ladies ever been to a beauty warehouse sale? What is your favourite beauty brand?

And last but not least, please don't forget to follow me on Bloglovin' and Twitter, and especially on Blogger (sidebar to your left ;) )!

FaceTime: Tonal Summer Look

5/20/13

Summer time is coming around and I wanted to do a few cool looks that are gonna be in and quite popular for the summer! The warm weather here was short-lived, it quickly got cold again and I can't wait for it to come back (COME BACCCCK!).
With the help of a dear friend, I managed to shoot three looks in one Saturday afternoon and today I'm only going to show you the a tonal look. Basically, it's a look where your eyes, cheeks and lips all have the same colour, maybe a different shade, but the same colour nonetheless. Back in the day, this style was a total no-no and not something you'd see anyone wearing (atleast not anyone who knew anything about makeup). Now it's hot off the haute couture runway and splashed all over magazines and youtube beauty gurus. You apply this look with various colours that you would normally put on your cheeks and lips (orange, pink, lilac, red, coral, fuschia, etc). Since coral is a colour that looks amazing on my olive NC 30 complexion (with yellow/golden undertones) I decided to do a coral tonal look.

Products used:
Face
Revlon Whipped Colourstay Foundation 250 Medium Beige
MUFE HD Microfinish Powder
NYX Beige Concealer
MAC Pro-longwear concealer in NC20

Cheeks
Chanel Joues Contraste Reflex 82

Eyes
Bourjois Baked Eyeshadow in 94 (light golden colour)
MAC Expensive Pink (all over lid)
Covergirl Waterproof Lash Blast Mascara (original)

Lips
MAC Betty Bright (from the Archie Girls collection)

This is a really easy look, very beginner friendly, with minimal amounts of products and its so very in for the Spring/Summer 2013 season. Something I know I'll do again with a simple outfit which will look pretty chic ;)

What looks are your favourite for the Spring/Summer? Do you like these types of looks- the one colour looks?

Spreading Some Youtube Love!

5/17/13

I have always been in awe of youtubers, those that have really put themselves out there that have a strong following and seem so friendly that you just want to meet them!
I've recently gotten really into watching some youtubers, and wanted to share them with you. Some days I'll just get lost watching beauty videos and it's so fun and a great way to hear an opinion about products besides reading the full blog posts!

They're both very cute ladies and it's always fun to find new beauty bloggers/youtubers to subscribe to! I'm glad I found their channels and feel like we like a lot of similar colours so I know I'll be able to trust some of their advise in the future.

May TopBox Unveiling!

5/16/13

When I got home the other day, I was dog-tired. Like, if-I-sit-down-I-won't-get-up tired. Which is what happened... until I got an email that my Topbox package had been delivered! I literally jumped up and rushed down to my mailbox where my my cylindrical box of wonders awaited me. Got home, ripped open the package and what I found was surprising and exciting!
Not a single skin-care item, instead I got four make-up items: one full size and three healthy-sized samples.

My little beauty menu which outlines all the product sent.

The outer packing of the Topbox box is very sleek and chick, and can definitely be re-used (yay! Love me some good packaging).

Starting at the back row from left to right: A sample of SeeBy Chloe, full size of Cuccio Colour Nail Polish, sample size of Yaby eyeshadow in Jaded and a sample of Lise Watier liquid lipstick in Stylista.

Wand for Stylista lip product.

Wand and colour of the Cuccio Colour Nail Polish

Adorable sample perfume bottle of SeeBy Chloe.

All in all I'm pleased and surprised with the contents of this months box, both for the fact that it was exclusively a beauty box with no one single skincare item (quite the refreshing shock!). Since I don't stay from my Chance by Chanel perfume I'll most likely gift Mr. SeeBy Chloe or keep him as an adornment on my vanity (he really does smell good!). I like both the nail colour and lip colour and excited to try them both out this month. I'm not excited about the Yaby eyeshadow as I have received samples of these before and found that pigmentation was lacking in regards to other brands (and why would I purchase this brand when I can by something better for the same price, right?).

What do you ladies think of the contents of this box? Do you have any favourite monthly subscriptions?

Sephora Haul: Tarte Cheek Stain and New Buxom Lip Creams

5/14/13

Did anyone else have a crazy Mother's Day weekend? Mine was absolutely hectic, every day and night I had plans and barely any time to myself to rest! (which makes me cranky beyond belief). I had a beautiful Saturday where I tutored and went to a hilarious birthday sushi dinner, then Sunday my parents came to visit and brought me all sorts of goodies. Of course, I got a my mom a special present for Mother's Day (which she loved, by the way). I mean this is the life of makeup addict with a full-time job living a busy life in a dynamic and industrious city - it's hectic and crazy and sometimes it's overwhelming which pisses you off a little bit. But, either way, a good small and quick beauty haul can subside any moodiness of mine (at least for a little bit of time).
So, when my parents came to visit, and thank God they brought my little sister, who then requested a trip to Sephora (I could hear Angels singing "Hallelujah" in that wonderful moment) it gave me about 25 minutes of "me time" in heaven. I got one of the new Buxom lip creams and my sister had already bought me a Tarte cheek stain (yay!!). I even got the SA to give me a few samples of gentle exfoliators to try at home (beautiful, beautiful girl).

The Tarte Cheek stain the Buxon Lip Creams and three little sample exfoliators (more info below!)

I got the Buxom Lip Cream in Pink Lady, a very pretty, almost neon pink cream on my lips.

Tarte Cheek Stain in Tipsy, you can see the coral pink colour and the subtle (but with multitudinous micro-shimmers)

Close-Up of Clarins One Step Gentle Exfoliator

I'm so excited to try my Tarte Cheek Stain and my Buxom Lip Cream. I'm hoping that cheek stains become an easier alternative for the warmer months! It's my first one so I can't wait to figure out ways to make it work for me. If you ladies have any suggestions of how to properly apply (or how you do it!) cheek stains, let me know. I'm going to be testing the Buxom Lip Cream and doing a review, I've heard great things from Essie Button but other than that I haven't heard much.

After Lush's harsh Sea Salt exfoliator, I wanted something a little more gentle for my skin and not as drying. I do have combination skin, but the salt composition is really too rough for my facial skin. The Clarins exfoliator was recommended by a friend (I also use various other products from Clarins). The Korres and Origins exfoliators were additional recommendations from the lovely Sephora SA. So far, the Clarins exfoliator has the nicest smell and gentle exfoliating beads, the Korres one is the roughest (still not very rough) with beads ranging of different shapes, and the Origins one has many grains/beads and is the goopiest texture out of all of them (it's a bit intimidating but I will test the product none the less).

Have you ladies tried the Tarte Cheek Stains or the Buxom Lip Creams so far? What is your favourite summer exfoliator for your face?
