TopBox Reveal | August 2013

This past weekend I was driving back to Montreal with a dear friend, and as we were chatting about life and our passions, especially about makeup being one of mine, she tells me with a mischievous half-smile that I really really love makeup and that it tends to make me really happy
It's crazy to actually think that these little colourful products really do bring me joy;  so when my TopBox arrives in the mail I always become excited, even when I'm expecting it!
This month, TopBox made us wait a little longer so that the special products included would not be released too early for Fall.

From left to right: Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion, Expression Kabuki brush, AVON Mega Effects Mascara, MIYU Teas and Beauty De-Stress Mi

The MIYU De-Stress Mi Tea and Beauty Essence combo is by far my favourite of the entire box this month. It's a cool idea and would make a great gift for a few of my beauty and tea-loving friends. It's also got a great selling point - not just beauty but beauty lifestyle - and that's my favourite part of this item.

This mascara is definitely innovative, with a different shape...

and a different wand...

and certainly a different sort of application!
It reminds me of the one that pop beauty came out with, the reviews for pop beauty were a little disappointed so I'm not expecting much from this mascara. I have a feeling that this sort of brush may be awkward to use to really grab each lash and give a lush full eyelash look - which I love and must have! That being said, I'm 100% excited to try it out and see how it works, who knows, could be the next big beauty thing!

I'm very happy with this TopBox and will be trying out each and every one of these products. I will be having a review on the AVON mascara up soon! Are you ladies excited about these new types of mascara products?

What do you think of this month's TopBox?

L'Oreal Collection Privee

The drugstore is my Achilles heel, I barely escape out of there without a cosmetics product!
However, on this particular trip I was able to discover a new mini collection from L'Oreal.

The Collection Privee display

Doutzen and J.Lo collection display and colours

The Eva and Frieda display and colours

This, as it turns out, is supposed to be a collection of "luxe" but drugstore nudes by L'Oreal.
I decided to purchase the Eva Nude since her colouring and skin tone seems closest to my own.

So far I love the packaging, black and gold! The black feels a little bit like the NARS packaging texture with plastic gold to embellish. I really love the personalized signature of Eva on this lippie, as well as the LR logo on the top of the cap.

The colour is very nice, a my-lips-but-better golden nude colour and so it doesn't make a huge difference when I apply it. Then again, isn't that what a nude is meant to be?

Will you be trying the Collection Privee de L'Oreal?

Men Wearing Makeup? | Tom Ford

I guess I can't be too surprised that boys are starting to jump on the makeup bandwagon. I mean we've been having all the fun to ourselves for this whole time - isn't it about time we share? Well, Tom Ford sure thinks so and this gorgeous, yet uber masculine man, admits that he even uses a little bit of the good stuff in his daily routine. Talk about dressing to impress!

His up and coming men's skincare line is described as: "This is a serious, high-ticket men's grooming line with a couple of products with cosmetics benefits to be used in a very masculine way."

A big believe in moisturizer - hating dry skin and imperfections - this genetically blessed man actually wears bronzer every day, contrary to beliefs that he tans. He also shamelessly dabs some concealer onto problematic facial areas, like so many ladies we know.

On one hand, I'm a little scared of all the male glamazons popping up on at the hotspots in town, but then again, a little bit of makeup never hurt anyone, right?

The new Tom Ford Men's Skincare line will range from 25$ to 150$ with most products in the 40-60$ range.

What do you ladies think? Would you buy this stuff for your special guy?

First Impressions | Body Shop Mango Lip Butter

A few days ago I strolled into the Body Shop looking for some goodies for a particular occasion. I don't walk in there often as I'm not often in need of their type of products, but I always walk away with something.
In this case I got a lip butter in Mango. Yummy.

I love the packaging it comes in: a little pot! Adorable.
The smell is wonderful, if you like mango. If you don't like strong fruity smells, then it's best to stay away from this one.

There is no colour payoff but it is super moisturizing and it makes lips look quite juicy.
I really like that this lip butter heats to the touch, even though its solid in the pot in liquifies at the touch and is very easy to apply lightly or generously.

I wanted to put it next to a body butter from Body Shop just to show the size difference. It is quite a bit smaller but I love that it's in mini body butter packaging.
So far, I find this to be one of the most moisturizing lip balms/butters I've ever tried.

At 6$ CAD a pop, it's on the pricier side (since drugstore balms are about 2-5$ CAD) but I would still repurchase these lip butters!

Have you tried this product? What are you thoughts?

Strikingly Sweet Julys

Yes, I understand it's almost mid-August and this post is late. My excuse: I've been doing a miiiiiiiiiiillion and one things, and now my evenings have calmed down. Just a touch.

Sooo I've been excited to show my favourites that I've been using for the month of July. Especially since I used most of these products when I was travelling.

The products I've been loving:
Korres Daily Brightening and Refining Buff Cleanser, Neutrogena Deep Clean Cleanser, China Glaze nail polish in Riveting, Chanel Rouge Allure in 104 Passion (Red), MAC eyeshadow in Barefoot, MAC Bronzer in Matte Bronze.

Neutrogena Deep Clean will always be a staple cleanser in my skincare routine. It's a cleanser that works well for combination skin and it doesn't strip me completely of hydration but it also prevents pimples from forming with regular use.
Korres Daily Brightening and Refining Buff Cleanser is a exfoliating cleanser that can be used daily but I typically use it 4-5 times a week as a gentle exfoliator. I absolutely adore this because it makes my skin so smooth and it really does brighten the skin!

MAC Bronzer in Matte Bronze is also a regular but trusty staple bronzer. I've hit pan already but since I use only a little bit, it lasts a very long time.
I found Chanel Rouge Allure in 104 Passion on Rue Cambon, of course, a classic red lipstick found on a classic Parisian street. The entire day and night of wearing this, my friend who was with me just couldn't stop complimenting the colour! Win!

MAC Barefoot eyeshadow is just a great golden shadow to use daily as an all over lid wash or as a base colour. I love this eyeshadow with some black liquid liner and red lipstick. Voila, Old Hollywood Glamour!
A typical summer colour, China Glaze in Riveting is my favourite nail polish for my toes during the warmer months. With a tan, the colour really pops and I cannot seem to get enough.

I've gotten a few more things lately that I'm so excited to try and review for you guys!

What have been your favourite beauty products this summer?

Swatchtime | OPI Samoan Sand

I have been searching for Samoan Sands nail polish from OPI for about 2 years now, and where do I find this elusive colour? On Champs-Elysees in Paris. It figures, of course I found it there.

For my skintone, Samoan Sands is the perfect nude. After two coats, it's a light pink and beige nude, this would work splendidly on olive, yellow or dark skintones. Since it has pink tones, it might be a little more difficult for fair skintones that have pink undertones to pull off (but it's still worth a try!).

In natural light

In natural but direct sun light

After 4 days of wear this nailpolish has barely chipped (as in maybe once) and the opaqueness after two coats is quite nice.
A beautiful colour if you just want to have a natural groomed look or even if you want something specifically for interview or for work.
Would I repurchase this product? Yes, if I can find it!
So far, it's the perfect nude for me!

Sneak Peak: Chanel Rouge Allure | Passion 104

I feel an addiction coming on... Or well another addiction starting. I've been so in love with lipsticks for such a long time but now I'm really starting to focus on one colour in particular: the Red.
While in Paris, I stopped by the first Chanel store, where Coco first had her atelier, and bought myself a red lipstick. I mean it only seemed fitting, picking out a classic red lipcolour on 31 Rue Cambon in Paris. I haven't taken lip swatches yet, or had enough time for a full review, but that's coming soon!

Chanel Rouge Allure 104 Passion

This colour is a beautiful red with pink undertones, great for yellow or olive skintones. That said, it's not so great for those of you with a lot of pink pigments in your skin (but don't despair, there are reds out there for you!).

What is your favourite red lipstick?
