Swatchtime | Seche Vite and Samoan Sands

So the story goes, I really needed a Topcoat for my nails. I keep painting them and my nails always chip - a frustrating fact when its only been a day since I freshly painted them.
I finally splurged and got the Seche Vite topcoat for a whopping $12.50CAD. Expensive, but apparently, very very worth it. I've been wearing Seche Vite with OPI's Samoan Sands and my nails have only started to chip after 6 days of wear - an amazing feat for this duo.

I am loving Seche Vite, and so far, I will keep purchasing and using it until I find something much better. But when Shellac isn't an option, Seche Vite will definitely be there.

On another note, I've been really into neutral nails lately: darks, nudes and greys. Isn't Samoan Sands just beautiful? I love it with my skintone and it's a colour I will wear all year long.

What have you been wearing on your nails lately?

Beauty Secret: Activated Charcoal | Indecent Xposure

Recently, I've been so into skincare. and so I jumped at the chance to do a little research and write about activated charcoal for beauty.
I know you might think that it's absolutely crazy to add charcoal to your face, but many skincare companies have already come out with products that are incorporating just that - activated charcoal.
I wrote a little article on Indecent Xposure about Activated Charcoal in Beauty - explaining the way activated charcoal works, products on the market and a short DIY activated charcoal mask.
Activated charcoal is ideal for oily and acne prone skin types, however, it may be quite harsh for dry, sensitive and normal skin types.

What do you ladies think? Have you tried Activated Charcoal products?

TopBox, I'm Disappointed in You!

It doesn't happen often, and it's not because I'm pleased easily, but every now and then I'm very very displeased with a product. Lately, I've been fairly disappointed in my TopBox contents. In case you don't already know, TopBox is a monthly beauty box subscription for about $14 CAD where the client receives about 5-6 deluxe beauty samples per month.
If you follow my blog regularly, and you really should - I'm good at what I do ;) , then you know that I'm always blogging about this month's TopBox. However, the past few months I've been pretty disappointed in the featured products and just how many I'm receiving. Usually I'd receive 5-6 decent things, and one or two would be full size, which was such a treat! Lately, I've been receiving about 4-5 products, all are super super small samples and no treats. These samples would be small sackets that I could retrieve at any department store or little body lotion samples. Small body lotion sample are such a pet peeve, unless they contain something really potent and special - and most don't, trust me.
In my recent TopBoxes, I've only really received about two samples I've been interested in trying. In my opinion, that's not worth the monthly 15$.
Honestly, if my next TopBox is this uninteresting and bland, I will be unsubscribing from this monthly beauty box and looking for another brand to subscribe to.

Any suggestions? I find the best monthly beauty boxes are in the USA or the UK!

Do you girls receive the TopBox? If so, what are your thoughts and opinions?

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush for Spring 2014

There is always beauty news floating on the internet, every day there is always a company coming out with something novel. I've become desensitized to most of the "new releases" and usually only go for special items that really capture my interest. Once in a while, this happens...
The Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blushes, for Spring 2014, are just the right kind of beauties to make me go wild with impatience. Hourglass first released highlighters in the Ambient Lighting range back in early 2013. These are some of the best highlighters on the market - I'm still lemming for two of them!
So needless to say, I'm mega excited about the blushes coming out in the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Range. There are 6 in total so far and each blush is infused with one of the already very-popular Ambient Lighting highlighters. Say what?!
Mood Exposure A soft plum blush fused with Mood Light to brighten the complexion
Dim Infusion A subdued coral blush fused with Dim Light to add warmth
Diffused Heat A vibrant poppy blush combined with Diffused Light for a subtle halo effect
Ethereal Glow A cool pink blush fused with Ethereal Light for a moonlit luminosity
Luminous Flush A champagne rose blush fused with Luminous Light to evoke a candlelit glimmer
Radiant Magenta A golden fuchsia blush combined with Radiant Light for a summer glow

I'm absolutely dying to get my paws on Dim Infusion and Diffused Heat. Dying.
Similarly to the Ambient Highlighters, these blushes will become part in the permanent Hourglass cosmetics collection and available February 2014.
I need them right away.

"Unlike traditional blush, which tends to be flat, Ambient Lighting Blush exhibits depth and dimension. The integration of Photoluminescent Technology offers transformative coverage while instilling cheeks with an otherworldly flush. The six shades, which range from soft coral to cool pink, are a wardrobe of captivating accent lights for cheeks." -Hourglass

Swatches and First Impressions | Rimmel Apocalips Lip Lacquer in Stellar

January and February are probably the hardest months during a Montreal winter. Everything is absolutely freezing, much colder than December, and you're lucky if you see sun at all! There's also not much to look forward to as the Holiday season has just ended. That being said, I think I have a case of the winter blues. Unsurprising, as I think I get a pretty strong case of it each year around this time.
Naturally, as a complete lip junkie, I wanted to try one of the Apocalips Lip Lacquers by Rimmel and so I purchased Stellar.
Stellar is a very bright pink with some coral undertones. These lip lacquers are super opaque and long lasting. It's so opaque that you should be careful applying it, as any small mistake would easily show. Using a lipliner may even be a good idea for a classic night out - it's very similar to a lipstick but liquid! However, I don't find that it stains my lips after it's rubbed off. The packaging is also fairly sleek and easy to carry, I love the top of the lacquer's packaging as the geometry gives it a cool finish.
The wand is a doe foot with a bit of a crevice in the center, allowing application of more than enough product.
This retails at about $8-9 CAD and no doubt will be a little cheaper in the states. I'm loving this product and would be very tempted to buy a few more colours!

Have you ladies tried any of the Apocalips lacquers?

Beauty Oils | Kiehls Midnight Recovery Oil and Boscia Tsubaki Beauty Oil Mini Reviews

2014 has been a crazy crazy year so far, and as I'm finally getting over some mishaps that have happened in the last couple weeks, I'm ready to get back into full Beauty Blogger swing!
If you're a beauty lover, or a Sephora addicts, you'll have probably noticed by now that Beauty Oils are making a huge splash. We can all thank Josie Maran and her all natural Argan Oil, which started this huge skincare and beauty movement.
The best part of this whole ordeal is that most people, especially us combination and oily chicks, were not aware that putting oil on your face can actually control your facial oil production. At first, this all seems counterintuitive but after a little bit of research it makes total sense.
Basically: oil cancels out oil.
If you're combination or oily, your skin will tend to overproduce oil in order to compensate but when it's properly nourished, by using a healthy oil, it doesn't need to produce as much. And voila! less oil production and less oily face.
Needless to say I've been totally getting really into this Beauty Oil phenomenon and it's been helping with my combination skin - both dry and oily patches - and with my acne scars and sun spots! Some, if not most, of the oils also have anti-aging benefits. A little goes a long way: each night before bed I rub 2-3 drops of oil between my fingers and then gently massage this into my face/neck/decolletage - careful not to put it too close to the eyes.

The two that I have so far are the Tsubaki Beauty Oil from Boscia and the Midnight Recovery Oil from Kiehl's. However, there are so many more that I want to try! Any suggestions?

I got the Boscia Tsubaki Beauty Oil as a gift from a dear friend and I tried it and loved it. It's geared towards anti-aging since it's chock full of anti-oxidants. The formula is thin and it absorbs quickly into your skin. The next few days my skin felt super soft and much smoother. I'm still going to need a couple more weeks to fully review this one. Of the two, it's the more affordable one as it's 46$ CAD for 50 ml.

The Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Oil was something I discovered on my own. I had never been to a Kiehl's store and so I decided to walk into the one here in Montreal and check out the brand. The girl there, Tanya, had a short Kiehl's consultation with me. She gave me a few samples to try, along with my purchase of a cleanser, and so I had a small sample of the oil try. The sample lasted me a good week and a half, since all you need is a few drops. After a couple weeks, my skin is smoother and many of my acne scars have faded away. My skin is also less combination more "normal" and I don't have as many breakouts per month. I really think this oil helped balance my skin out. I will be repurchasing this one for a lifetime! This is the more expensive of the two as its 48$ CAD for 30 ml.

I love these products and I think everyone should at least try it, if not incorporate it into their own beauty routine.
Whats your opinion on Beauty Oils? Have you tried any?

Beauty Skincare Videos and Bloggers

This week has been incredible, on so many levels, most of them not so great. To cheer myself up, I usually delve into new videos by some of my favourite bloggers. The beginning of 2014 feels as though this year is going to be a very skincare focused year in beauty! I love ittt...

Here are a couple great videos that feature skincare from two very popular and great beauty bloggers. The first, Jaclyn Hill and the second, Nicole Guerriero.

What are some of your favourite skincare products? Any suggestions?

January Skincare Month | Haul

Blogging of 2014 has started off so so slow, and I have to apologize for that! Last week was absolute insanity on both personal and work fronts. I hope the rest of 2014 is not as crazy as this! However, I have started with a small and quick Sunday Haul.
I find Sundays the best days for a beauty adventure and my wallet always tends to splurge a little too much...

But I stopped by MAC, Kiehl's and Sephora to grab a few must-haves. Most of the products were all refills and a couple were repurchases.

I repurchase the Pro Longwear concealer from MAC, which is probably one of the best concealers I've ever tried - drugstore or high end. You also get a fair amount, 9ml, compared to 1.5ml for a drugstore concealer.
I also repurchased an Origins Ginzing Eye Cream, I believe this is my third one! I love this cream, it's not a miracle worker but it keeps my under eye hydrated and the worst of the dark circles at bay. I haven't yet found another brightening day eyecream that I like more so far, and I've tried a fair amount. Any suggestions?
Lastly, I went in Kiehl's and I purchased a full size of the Midnight Recovery Concentrate Oil (30ml) and a small size of the Ultra Hydrating Facial Moisturizer (75ml). I really like the Midnight Recovery Concentrate Oil, as I was given a generous sample and it has done wonders to reduce the acne scars on my chin. I was also given a sample of the Ultra Hydrating Facial Cream, but it was a little too heavy for me, so I opted to try the regular, lighter, moisturizer. I will be giving a more thorough review of the Kiehl's product and brand, as I've just recently been introduced to it and need to do a bit more research!

Have you tried any of these products before? What did you think?

Everyone is coming out with their own personal New Years resolutions, goals and "contracts with self" for 2014. So I thought, why not have some beauty resolutions? I always seem to have goals for myself when it comes to anything beauty related anyways!
I wrote another little piece for Indecent Xposure that gives a few good ideas for beauty resolutions for this year, or just for any time of the year, really. I'm going to try to stick to these myself, so feel free to add them to your list! Or if you create some of your own, feel free to share in the comments here or at

What resolutions, goals or contracts will you be making for yourself this year?
Do you think anyone gains anything from resolutions?
