Spring 2014 Beauty Report | Indecent Xposure

2/25/14

Since Spring 2014 is *hopefully* just around the corner, so are the ever emerging beauty trends for the season!
I wrote an article on the Spring 2014 Runway beauty trends for Indecent Xposure that I'd just love if you checked out! I think we will be seeing a lot of these in the next warmer season and some may even translate into summer. I, for one, am finally excited for a Spring beauty season. Most Spring seasons consist of pastels and lots of light colours, which aren't too flattering to my skin-tone or personality. Since this season is much "brighter", I'm more keen to try some (if not all) of the trends out.

What will you be trying out this season? What are you looking forward to the most?

Essie in Head Mistress | NOTD

2/23/14

I don't think I've actually purchased a new nail polish in a long damn time!
And of course, Head Mistress by Essie came to me in my latest Topbox for February. So I paid for it, but definitely not full price. It's another one of those deep fuschia toned red colours, one of many, but a nice bright colour to warm up these cold winter days! I think I prefer a true red vs a fuschia red, both colours compliment my skintone but a find a true red to just be a hollywood-style classic colour which is more my style.

So, I wouldn't purchase this colour if I finished the bottle, and since I have similar ones I may give a few of them away. This one also has a tendency to chip a little easier than most other polishes. A quality that I'm not a fan of at all!

A short nail polish swatch post, but what do you ladies think of this colour?
Do you wear it often or do you prefer more unconventional nail colours?

February Sephora Adventures | Haul

2/22/14

I'm always a big fan of Sephora adventures, although I try to limit them since they result in my wallet being a little skinnier. Besides my wallet being a little thinner, I also acquired a couple products that I think I'll be very happy about! One in particular, that I apparently wasn't supposed to be able to purchase, but it does come with a good story.
Since the Hourglass Ambient Blushes launched online, I expected them to be in store soon after. Yesterday, I walk into Sephora and I see what I think to be a Sephora employee opening the Hourglass drawers, so I asked her if the Ambient Blushes have come out in store yet. She then told me she was the Hourglass rep and even though they weren't yet on display she had the testers and the products. So she tried two on me, the Luminous one and the Dim Infusion blush. Originally I had asked to buy the Luminous blush, a very bright pop of pink, to which she also gave me a 5ml sample of the Veil primer - a generous sample to boot! I ended up adding the Boscia Cleansing Sponge with Bamboo Charcoal to my purchase and happily trotted out the door.
As I was out walking and shopping in the boutiques in Montreal, I ended up really liking the Dim Infusion blush so much more on my skin-tone. (She had put one on each cheek!) Later that evening, I went back to Sephora to exchange the blush - it was untouched, unopened and only purchase a couple hours before - where I learned that the Hourglass rep wasn't supposed to sell me one at all. The in-store Ambient Blush launch is supposed to be next week! Oops!
So I guess I got it a little earlier in-store than I was allowed to, but I'm absolutely okay with that!

The packaging is a gorgeous gold mirror-esque plastic with the Hourglass label stamped on top

Swatches from Top to Bottom: Chanel Joues Contraste in Reflex, Hourglass Ambient Blush in Dim Infusion

I'm wearing the Hourglass Ambient Blush in Dim Infusion today and I absolutely love it, a review and more swatches to come soon! Although at first glance, it's much lighter than my Chanel Reflex but definitely build-able and I love the sheen it gives my face.

I also tried the Boscia Cleansing Sponge with Bamboo Charcoal with the Kiehl's Face Cleanser and it did remove the majority of my makeup, was gentle enough for the eye area and most of the oil and dirt. My face felt excellent afterwards, not tight but not a trace of oil to be found. I will definitely be using this as part of my night routine and will be posting a review in the coming weeks. It comes with a small sample of the Boscia Detoxifying Black Cleanser and the sponge itself is sealed with plastic and quite hard. As you wet it with warm water, it softens right up and is very gentle on the skin. It's targeted towards combination and oily skin types.

What do you ladies think of my little haul and adventure? I'm so excited by both products and by the generous veil primer sample!
Let me know if you've tried any of the products and your thoughts on them!

Topbox February 2014 | Haul

2/19/14

Wow, I'm really pleased with the February 2014 Topbox! I feel like they heard me of something? (doubtful that they did, but a girl can dream!)

So it turns out that I won't cancel my Topbox subscription, since this box has totally redeemed itself to me. We will see what next month brings! Do any of you ladies still get Topbox? Or have you unsubscribed?

Topbox sent four items for this month and most of them were full sized! I'm a happy lady tonight.

Essie Nail Polish in Head Mistress - a deep red fuschia colour, and it's actually looking good on my light olive skin!

So Susan Lip & Cheek Sublime - A bright pink lip and cheek tint in a crayon format. I'm not sure if this comes in other colours, but this colour is perfect for a pop of colour!

Epic Blend Lip Balm in Green Apple - Lip Balm in the Winter? A staple and a necessity. Good call Topbox. Apparently, this little guy is formulated with 7 moisturizers and is seeming to be a great blend of a waxy and greasy formula. Depending on how moisturized they keep my lips, I may grab a couple more!

Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Skin Protectant - I've definitely gotten this in a Topbox recently, but since this stuff is so crucial to have (you can use it for anything!) I'm always okay with getting more of it!

I'll be using every item in this box, happily! I'm hoping next month's Topbox is just as good!

What do you ladies think of this month's Topbox?

Chanel Seasonal Collection | Spring 2014

2/14/14

Like almost any seasonal Chanel collection, the Spring 2014 Chanel Make-up collection is to die for.  I, myself, really prefer the fall collections as my palette is more geared towards the rich fall colours. But the beautiful and light pastels for Spring 2014 might convert me!

I am loving the bright lipsticks and polishes! Since Chanel is one of the fashion houses that sets the trends... It seems the trends this Spring are gearing towards soft eyes with bright lips and a pop of colour on the cheeks. I'm always expecting pastels for Spring and have gotten pretty sick of them so I'm loving the fresh take for the season,

I'm going to have to get my hands on the coral-red Rouge Allure colour.
I've also seen some swatches of Charivari (the deep purple and glossy nail colour) and it's to die for. Also an untraditional colour for Spring, as it's super dark and smokey but also lovely to see for the season!

As you can tell, I'm fairly impressed and pleasantly surprised with the amazing choice in colour palette this season.

You go, Coco!

Oh and uh, Happy Valentine's Day Lovers! xo

Batiste Dry Shampoo 'Hint of Color' Medium and Brunette | Review

2/12/14

It's been a while, about a week and a half. I've been through quite a bit of emotionally taxing events and consequently I took a short hiatus from blogging. I didn't want to, I just didn't have the energy and ability to really get myself writing.

During my little hiatus, I did get really into some dry shampoos. I haven't been able to find, in all my years, a dry shampoos that has really worked on my hair! I wash my hair daily, since it gets oily very quickly. Sometimes when I do use a dry shampoo it makes my scalp feel dirty. Dry Shampoos also tend to be a little more white/grey and they can leave sort of white residue against my dark brown hair.

Recently, I found the brand Batiste that makes Dry shampoos and I absolutely love them! I picked up one that was slightly coloured for medium brown hair to see if it would cancel out the white/grey effect that other dry shampoos tend to leave.

I'm absolutely inlove with the Hint of Color: Medium and Brunette dry shampoo from Batiste. It absorbs the oil in my hair without leaving a white residue. The spray bottle makes it easy to apply on the desired area(s). Even though the bit of colouring is great, there were initials mishaps where I coloured the top half of my forehead a nice shade of brown. You definitely have to be a lot more careful with this product while spraying it around your hairline - but the resulting effects are worth it! I have quite oily roots, and this lasts for about a 10 hour day - until my roots starts to show oil again.

I also want to state that when you wash your hair, the colour definitely comes out and so the water will turn a murky shade of brown.

I don't really care about the packaging since it's just a shampoo, but its perfectly functional in it's spray can. I'm glad they indicate that there is a "hint of color" by making the packaging a brown swirl. It keeps me from grabbing it instead of my other white coloured shampoos when I need to use those instead.

Batiste is making me start to love Dry Shampoos as they can be some of the biggest beauty savers out there. You can use them to absorb oil when you're running too late to hop in for a shower, but also to add a bit of volume and texture to your hair.
What other uses are there for Dry Shampoo?

This retails at about 10$ either CAD or USD, in Canada it can be found at Brunet drugstores and in the USA this can be found at Ulta stores.
If you have neither of these stores around you, you can always grab it from Amazon.

What do you ladies think? Have you ever used a Batiste Dry Shampoo?
