Real Review #3 | Too Faced Bonjour Soleil Bronzing Wardrobe Palette

5/1/14

Summer is almost here!
That's how I feel when I see the new Summer 2014 beauty collections coming out. It's like a beautiful bronzed light at the end of a cold, wet tunnel. So when I saw the Too Faced collection online, at Sephora and then at Ulta, I knew warm weather and bronzed skin was not too far off. Maybe overzealously, and out of sheer happiness, I purchased the Too Faced Bonjour Soleil Bronzer Palette. Too Faced officially named it the Soleil Bronzing Wardrobe, and I have to agree as it's definitely a little summer wardrobe for your skin! How cute is that

I have used this a couple times and as the collection has recently come out, I thought I'd give it a review. I'm surprisingly quite pleased with this palette. Originally, I thought I'd find it okay and usable but not spectacular. But to be honest, I may buy a couple of these items individually!

Swatches Left to Right: Snow Bunny, Chocolate Soleil and Sun Bunny
Let me start off by clarifying that I'm not a huge bronzey person and I don't wear bronze or contour my face much. But after the longest North American winter I am extremely pale so I knew I needed a good bronzer! Now I've heard how amazing the Chocolate Soleil bronzer is, and it seems to live up to all the hype. The Too Faced Bonjour Soleil Bronzing Wardrobe has a matte bronzer [Chocolate Soleil], a lighter bronzer with a sheen [Sun Bunny] and a bronzed highlighting powder [Snow Bunny].
The consistency of the powders is fairly buttery, I haven't noticed any flakiness or dryness. I am able to blend the bronzers into my face, as well as the highlighter, seamlessly. They're all pigmented but picking up too much product is not made easy - however, be more careful with chocolate soleil. My skin tone is a light warm toned olive (NC30) and none of these are too dark with the right application; they definitely compliment my skin. I've been able to easily contour and bronze my face with this palette.

I do wish that I could use each colour stripe in Snow Bunny individually, but only the white and the brown give off colour, the pink and mauvey-gold colours only give off shimmer. If all of Snow Bunny's colours were pigmented, you could even use this as an eye palette! But sadly, it doesn't work as well.

Since I'm still so pale, I've been using Sun Bunny Bronzer with the Snow Bunny highlight.
The packaging is adorable, I love the Summer on the Coast of France look and the mirror inside. My one qualm is that it's a magnetic closing while I would prefer a more secure "click" closing.
Price-point is not so steep for 3 products in one [plus a mini kabuki brush!], but you have to be prepared to spend 50$ on it!

Pros
- Great for warm toned skin
- Pigmented bronzers
- Range of matte to sheen bronzers
- Includes highlighter
- Cute packaging includes a mirror!
- Includes a mini kabuki brush
- Palette format: great for travel and organization
- Widely available online at Sephora, Ulta and in-stores at Sephora and Ulta

Cons
- Price-point: higher end product
- Magnetic closure
- Not suitable for darker or very dark skintones
- Snow Bunny: solely a highlighter
- Large palette: as big as Urban Decay NAKED

If I ever hit pan on this palette, I would repurchase it. It's beautiful and it really suits my olive skintone.
Too Faced: you did good!

    1. I know! That's a big downfall. However, if you consider the fact that they're each sold separately and that each separately costs approximately $30 (CAD/USD), then it's a bit more of a bargain at $50. If you've ever wanted to try them, then this is the time! xo
