Real Review #18 | Boscia's Konjac Cleansing Sponge with Bamboo Charcoal

10/2/14

Konjac sponges have grown in popularity in North America recently - helping all skin types. I, for one, definitely have combination skin and figured I might benefit from this gentle exfoliating sponge.

When I spotted Boscia's Konjac Cleansing Sponge with Bamboo Charcoal in Sephora, I wasn't too aware of the hype around these sponges. Honestly, the packaging and the product itself looked really interesting and I was curious enough to be excited about my new find.

The sponge is half a sphere - meaning one end is perfectly round and the other is flat. Once you add water onto it, the size increases almost 2x and the sponge goes from a rigid form to a fluffy super soft texture. The round end fits perfectly into the palm of my hand while the other end is used to gently exfoliate my face. I use my Konjac Cleansing Sponge with my favourite cleanser, which currently is the Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cleanser. I put a nickel size amount of the cleanser on my sponge and lather it in before I gently scrub my face with the sponge/cleanser combination.

Boscia suggests that you should replace the sponge every 3 months. However, since I only use about 1-2x a week, I replace it less frequently - although this is up to you and how much dead skin you feel that you accumulate. The sponge comes with a string attached for easy air-dry hanging - no need to worry about it drying awkwardly on a surface. The colour of the sponge is a dark grey, since it contains adsorbing charcoal, whereas the original Boscia Konjac Cleansing Sponge is white. I haven't tried the original, but Boscia's Konjac Cleansing Sponge with Bamboo Charcoal works great for my combination skin. It's a gentle exfoliator that takes off every trace of makeup and dead skin, and I feel that I have less bumps and pimples when I add it into my skincare routine

Pros
- super soft sponge texture
- very gentle exfoliation: no irritation
- sponge shape: easy to handle
- hang-dry capability
- Easily accessible at Sephora, and online at Sephora.com and Boscia.com

Cons
- Higher price point
- fast expiry date: suggested 3 months

Would I repurchase Boscia's Konjac Cleansing Sponge with Bamboo Charcoal? Absolutely. I know there are cheaper alternative at beauty supplies stores, and even off Amazon, but I love this one and it works well with my skin. That's not to say I wouldn't try an alternative, I would just definitely repurchase this one!

Have you tried this product? What do you think of the Konjac Sponge trend?
